My hooking technique is causing me pain.
When i throw rear hooks at the heavy bag, i get this feeling like im exerting my shoulder where it rotates. Which causes some pain dood. I dont know if its cause im landing with a horizontal fist or vertical fist or if its cause im too close to the bag? but now when i windmill my shoulder its sore and it cracks. But i've experienced this when i do inclined bench presses in the same exact area of my shoulder. Could it be that my rotator cuff is messed up? or could i just have weak shoulders?

the closest spot i can nail the pain is the rotator cuff.

Do you warm up properly before you train? need to see you throwing really. Like Scrap says you're probably throwing it wrong :)
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
I'd say the same, make sure you warm up. Maybe you can post a video clip if you can, your shoulder is aching for a reason.

do you go to a gym? what do the trainers there say? Without seeing what you're doign it's hard to tell EXACTLY what you're doing wrong.
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
dammit! I think its the fact that my arm is bent in more than a 90 degree angle when i make contact with the bag. Well i'll see if i can get that video recorded.
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
Im retty certain youre giving the elbow to much air so you are not balanced on the knee to elbow line. It puts to much pressure on the shoulder joint its bad technique plus it makes it hard to turn the shot to lock the joint.
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
i have no idea what a knee to elbow line is, but i'm sure you're right. how do i correct this? Do i turn my elbow at a sharper 90 degree angle?
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
When contact is madethe elbow should be somewhere in line with the knee, otherwise theres to much pressure on the shoulder plus you are not in balance to do anything else. If the hand isnt in line with the opposite shoulder the biomechanics are wrong when past it you lose balance and drive.
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
tis true. My trainer told me when i hooked the bag that my form was off. It wasnt sturdy and my hips and upperbody movement were not synchronized when i twisted through. Therefore putting too much pressure on my shoulder. I made the mistake again today while hitting the bag. Anyone have drills or maybe some rules to prevent this from happening?

get yourself a watermelon and a pitchfork. Hook like you normally would, but without the pitchfork touching the watermelon before you turn your hips. Hope that helps.
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
well i've got a watermelon..but lemme go ask our friendly local farmer for a pitchfork.
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
Try standing with your front foot 6" from the wall right shoulder touching it moving up and down the wall throwing hooks .
Re: My hooking technique is causing me pain.
Oh and turn the fist that will lift the elbow for direction
