All time great's children
So alot of great fighters are named after theyr fathers..
And most of theyr fathers are boxers who started theyr children from a young age.. And these are the fighters that usually end up becoming great world class fighters..
And whats more is when a great fighter's son is taught to box young and they tend to be amazing..
A few things about great fighters son's
Roy Jones has a couple son's But they wont box.. Imagine the hype in 15 + years time when roy jones the third came along!..
Floyd mayweather layed the groundwork for floyd jr and Jr now has children of his own..
They may be ones to look out for in the future..
As is roger's son
Obv ronald hearns is well underway with his pro career
But i want to ask this..
If they have children? Where are the son's of the leonards, haglers, Im sure duran had a son in the fight game and he suffered a loss too his professional record quite early..Havnt heard much from him for a fair while..
Tyson has a son i think.. And he doesnt seem the type to say i dont want my child to be a boxer..
Also.. What about great's like barrera, morales, zaragoza , does whitaker? toney?
Hope you all add your two cents, facts and idea's!!
Peace
Re: All time great's children
Well the name helps them in the beggining but there are three men in the ring and their father isnt one of them so their career eventually go one of two ways just like any other boxer
Re: All time great's children
It's fairly easy to understand why there havent been great fighters with sons who turned out to be as well... Because the fathers don't have a chip on their shoulder about what they could have done etc... Instead they have a god complex that they pass on to their kids, only they worked their way up to garner it all, wheras their childen have nothing to fight for. IMpressing your daddy hardly serves as as much motivation than putting food on your own plate or your families..

Not so much as it bieng in theyr blood .. at the end of the day it all comes down to how well they have been trained and if theyr trained by one of the best then it makes for a great fighter..

A very interesting and accurate point there though.. Have to click you for that!
Its true.. Looking at things like.. Floyd sr was a fighter who never won a world title and had his career cut short by a shooting
Roy jones' father was an ex pro and former bare knuckle fighter and never made it himself..
And i suppose the kids grew up hungry and that served as theyr motivation..
Every now and then you will always get the barrera of the bunch.. An example since he was brought up in a middle class family with good money
And elaborating further..
If you are to think of well known fighters who do end up having great son's fighting..
Take son of leon spinks, cory spinks...
His dad is known.. And beat ali..But was also beat by an old parkinsons ridden ali and thats the win he sung his entire career..
But on the other hand daddy spinks wasnt much of a father and cory had a suprisingly hard upbringing... So it interesting to think about i guess my point is
Peace
Re: All time great's children
You're not born a great boxer, its something you learn.
I think its very niave to expect much out of the kids of famous boxers. Obviously there are some huge exceptions (PBF, Cory Spinks, ect). But think about it. Roberto Duran was dirt poor, and started training boxing early, working his a** off to provide for himself and his family. He came from nothing so he had ambition, he was hungry, he had drive. His kids aren't growing up that way, because of Roberto's success and wealth they don't have the same life experiences of conditions that their father had, conditions and experiences that probably made him the fighter he is.
Re: All time great's children
Roberto Duran's son boxed a while, didn't do well either
Camacho Jr didn't do so hot either
JC Jr still has a LOOOOONG way to go
Re: All time great's children
....FYI Hasim Rahman Jr. is being trained by Manny Steward....methinks it's a good matchup
Re: All time great's children
Marvis Frazier, the name puts a big question mark on this whole father son theory.
Re: All time great's children
Tracey Harris Patterson wasn't Floyd's actual kid but adopted son I believe....he turned out ok
Re: All time great's children
Cory Spinks is pretty successful like his dad.

If you had read my other posts you would have realised i never stated that they are born as great fighters..
