Kelly Pavlik tonight stressed his right for a title fight after a stunning seventh round stoppage of Edison Miranda in the WBC middleweight eliminator fight at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.
“To fight Taylor would be great,” he said to a rapturous crowd, still on a high from what is sure to have been considered one of the fights of the year.
Indeed, his promoter, Bob Arum, was quick to demand a title fight be sanctioned by the WBO, saying that he would take it as far as “the Supreme Court” if Pavlik is overlooked.
Naturally, Jermain Taylor immediately faced questions about Pavlik after his split decision victory over Cory Spinks in the main event ensured he retained his WBO and WBC belts. “I’ll fight Pavlik but let’s get the money right,” he said.
Taylor also defended his victory which, when compared to eliminator bout, seemed a tame affair. “I felt like I did what I had to do to win. It was like a chess match but felt like I was doing all the chasing,” he said.
The fight rarely sparked into life, prompting a largely supportive crowd to even boo at times. “Yeah, I heard that but it’s hard to hit him with more than two or three punches because he gets so low,” he said, suggesting that Spinks’ style stifled a more dramatic contest. “I’m used to a fight, a person coming in there and trying to kill me.”

I woulda loved to have heard from Miranda.
Pavlik looks like someone beat him with a gotdam ball bat.

Arum can boast all he wants...but if he don't bring the cash, then Taylor will run towards a Calzaghe showdown.

Taylor-Pavlik, Calzaghe-Kessler.
There's no excuse for those two fights not to happen in 2007.

Either fight is good, although Calzaghe to me is the better fighter.. There is no way Pavlik is the level of Calzaghe. I think Taylor should fight Pavlik just because he should finish business at 160 before he moves up to fight Calzaghe. Calzaghe is a tough fight for Taylor. Pavlik? Hard to say. Taylor would be given openings, and Taylor has fought good fighters.. He fought Hopkins and Wright. He would find a punch to land on Pavlik.

And Pavlik would walk right through it, just like he did against Miranda. And Miranda hits slightly harder than Taylor.
;)

quality of opposition . Taylor is more quality. I am not sure this is about power as about landing a cleaner punch. I think Taylor can land a nice clean shot when Pavlik is not expecting it and keep landing it. I do not think Pavlik walks right though his punch.

I really doubt it.. I mean I would give credit to Taylor for taking the fight, if he were to go after Calzaghe.... But he would get his ass beaten badly. Honestly that fight just lost a lot of lustre for me... Joe has to fight Kessler or the Hopkins WRight winner to get credit for taking the best fight from me.. Not that I wouldn't understand his jumping at the chance to fight Taylor for the money and exposure... But Joe would kill him. Let Pavlik fight Taylor.

my guess is that Taylor fights Pavlik and Calzaghe fights Kessler. Maybe after this Taylor can fight Calzaghe. It will get really big then.

You think Kelly looked bad after the fight? You should see Miranda, his right eye was completely shut and left was getting there. Im sure with the swellling his head looks like a ballon today.
