Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
It looks like Cotto's issues to make the weight are finally solved with his movement to 147. He made 148 in the pre-weight on May 31 for his fight on June 09. Will this be an indication of being in one of his best shapes or over training?
I looked at the pictures in a local newspaper showing Cotto jumping the rope and he was showing a full six pack. I can not wait to watch this fight since Judah must be making a great training also!!! :lifter:
Just hope that Cotto does not exceeds his limits and maintain all the strength he needs to win this fight.

I think so, but I'm no expert by any means. I don't use any check and balance system to determin the winner, I just go with what makes sense to me and try to block out what others are saying.
Around here that is hard to do because this place is filled with boxing savvy gurus. Wacko, Daxx, CutMeMick... they all have more knowledge than I do.
I know just enough to be dangerous and not enough to handicap myself with facts.
Thanks for noticing me though, Donny. I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me feel good.
Re: Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
Yup they're three names whose opinions iv come to respect on this forum. But bein the way i am (Irish :)) il argue my side against anyone! I say Cotto, somewhere in the mid rounds, perhaps adopting a strategy similar to hatton against Tszyu, muffling Zabs straight shots, as he utilises his own advantages (hooks, uppercuts)
Re: Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
What happens if Cotto exceeds a pound?
Re: Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
of course he wont wiegh in at over a pound when he is just a pound over right now.
Re: Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
Cotto really slims down for fighters that he thinks can test him....he boxed beautifully vs Abdullaev and I think he may do some of that vs Zab. But when he boxes he still does damage, as Abdullaev got really swole up in that fight.

Weighing a pound over the limit a little more than a week before the fight is actually pretty good weight management. If he was 5 pounds over, or even a couple of pounds under..... that might not be too good, especially the 5 pounds over. Weight management is an integral part of boxing, and Cotto certainly seems to be doing a better job of it now that he's at 147, than he was while at 140.
Re: Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
Most pro boxers have the ability of shedding a pound in a couple of hours, so i actually am a little bit surprised that he's that light already, may be a resultant of over training?
Re: Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
I agree that many boxers can lose a pound in a couple of hours, but I'm not sure how beneficial that really is. In my mind, having to lose weight at the last minute usually has negative consequences. As for over-training, who knows? It's all kind of a gray area. I think it's different for each fighter, how they approach the weight loss. For some, being a pound over a week from the fight might be good, whereas for others, they may prefer being 2 or 3 pounds over a week before.
Re: Cotto 1 Pound Above Limit
All I know is it is better than castillo who was probably 13 pounds over a week before his infamous fight.

That was an insult to boxing and its fans, for sure.
