Putin ends missle tensions; Iraqi nationals turn on al-queda
Wow when it rains it pours. In a war that hasn't had measurable progress in nearly 4 years, a huge HUGE lucky break has come our way. First off, Putin sees eye to eye with bush on missle defense plan therefor putting the US and Russia on the same page for the first time in quite awhile. Secondly, Former guards and soldiers of Suddam Hussein have (to my understanding) defected from their alliance with al-queda. Apparently the nationals have become fed up with the rampant killing that the muslim extremist group has put their families thru. The nationals have refused to deal with them and their extremist rules any longer and have apparently joined up with the U.S. allied forces.

For those who aren't keeping track, The nationals were the ones who have made this war the monstrosity it is today. With them no longer backing al-queda, things are gonna work a bit smoother. It's still gonna be a project tho.

I'll be in Baghdad by Thanksgiving...so I've been paying close attention....Large numbers of Sunnis have been joining the local police forces...Of course this make the predominantly Shia government nervous

If they are helping the police forces than they should be allied with the government. I'm sure its not the most stable relationship but it is a huge break for the war none the less.
