We call it,"The battle grid locks down"
Thats why Im jealous,Ive rarely had that feeling since coming back, but I know what your going at,Im working my butt off,but I rarely get that feeling of,the body threw without the mind needing to be engaged
Re: Had A Great Sparring Session Today
Isnt that the greatest feeling, when everything goes perfectly. Love the feeling having just really bossed an opponent, (not having beaten him up) just having really mastered him in the ring!!!
Re: Had A Great Sparring Session Today
Yeah congrats Ice Cold - Sounds like it's a good sign for your progress -
I'm with you on NOT feeling this way since coming back Monkey - I think I'm improving though - just a transition period because I'm finding so many things to correct and recondition that I didn't know/ understand how to work on before.
My theory is that we'll find our equilibrium again once we've put it all together :)
With me it's learning to bend my knees more, balance, trust my guard and getting my aerobic capacity back up. I've got a lot more muscle than before but I get puffed which feels so wrong!
Re: Had A Great Sparring Session Today
That's awesome man, I'm sorry that I let this post slip past me.
Anyways that's one of the greatest feelings you can get, it comes from's from a history of doing all the right stuff. Eventually you just settle into the groove of it and your mind isn't holding you back. If I were you I'd build upon it, when you relax and close your eyes, and right before you go to sleep and get up in the morning play it back in your mind, bring those feelings of success out, and picture it as realistically as you can.
Anyways to you Sharla or any fighter you gotta look at it as boxing is learning things in pieces, and every piece is a work in progress. You should always work on improving your punches, your movement, balance, anything. Now I don't know anybody besides Scrap that has really broke down how the body works and has worked out any adjustments and making improvements as well. As nice as it'd be to have your own personal Scrap in you can be your own Scrap. :D
What I mean is you gotta look inward, it's about taking observations of yourself and becoming aware of your body and how it feels. It's all about movement, you can then examine how you feel balance-wise, how do you feel as your weight moves from one side to another, your alignment, etc... With improved powers of observation you may then begin to improve anything. Do you want to improve your punches, shed unnecessary movement, generate more power and speed at the end of your punches? You can practice this observation while you're training especially while infront of the mirror so you can really see what you're doing.
Anyways, Scrap goes into more detail, as he calls a big part of it 'oral perception' I'll have to reread what he says about it.
Re: Had A Great Sparring Session Today
I think I know what you're trying to say Chris and I know I have a lot of things to break down. I found out my new flatmate has a camera and I think she can download her images to computer so I'll ask her to come video me sparring sometime.
One of my coaches is going away next week for work - he's the one whose most likely to organize sparring so sometime after that. The only other DVDs i have are from bouts and way to old to be worth posting. Last time I fought was September last year.
I'll try to post a sparring vid and get some advice before my next bout to make sure I'm on the right track.

You go for it girl, nothing would make Von happier. :D
I got a lot of things to break down, and fortunately for now I got nothing but time. I'll catch you soon.

Ah I think Von likes to joke around but seeing what I really look like with a head guard on, sweating like a pig, possibly dribbling or sniffing aswell (winter here - cycling to training and back 14 km each way is Fing cold!) - Is going to ruin it for him! Plus I'm not blonde anymore - it was getting too expensive to maintain.
Good to know you have stuff to break down aswell Chris CC - I swear it's never ending - I used to think that one day I'd look at my boxing and think - you know that's alright - but in reality .......
