I prefer the longer wraps as long as they're soft and flexible. I have a shorter thicker pair which I've been wearing this week but they're taking the skin off my hands because they rub under my gloves. I've got small hands but I like to wrap between my fingers which takes up a lot of length.
I know it's not meant to be good for your hands to do that but if I don't wrap between my fingers it feels wrong now. I think I'm just so used to it I can't go back a bit like Japanese people and the way all their socks separate their 2nd and third toes. I also hate having my wraps falling off and unravelling when I'm doing shadow work and wrapping my fingers prevents that.
Just like that Sharla, that's the way I like the way I like it. :) I know what you mean, the reason you want to wrap inbetween the fingers is it prevents the wraps from moving down scuffing your knuckles, it also gives you a little more protection. You can't do this with shorter handwraps either.
The longer handwraps are the way the go assuming you know how to make the most of them. I wrap a third of the way down my forearm for a strong wrist, put just enough wraps around my fist to give me that firm handshake feel, and enough extra wrap over the knuckles, and inbetween the fingers to hold in in place. I also use a few strips of tape to help hold it in place.
I'm right in there with you both. I like using the 180" Mexican Style handwraps best. They conform to the hands real nice and there's plenty of wrap to go between the fingers and to give the wrist some needed support.
That's the same kind I use. The stretch makes for a better fit while being careful not to make it too tight.
Good to know I'm not alone CC Chrsi and FeuerFrei :) - I was taught to put wraps on this way in a different gym to my current one. Where I am now I'm the only one who wraps between my fingers. Makes the coaches shake their heads in bewilderment at my fussiness!

With the short wraps it takes me about 10 second to wrap my hands. It wasn't much protection though and I got myself the long mexican style. Now used to doing it all the time I can wrap my hands with the long one about 1 minute a hand. That's in between the fingers, extra wrist support, and more padding on my knuckles. It's important that you don't have too much tape over your palms, as it's important that you're able to make a good solid fist inside of your glove.

I'm not sure if mine are Mexican or not - there are only a few brands here and I don't think they're labelled with a style - at least that I remember which might not mean much :-[. Mine have velcro so as long as I've wrapped properly I don't need to use tape at all.
Mexican style is the long and stretchy kind.
I use tape so I don't have to make as much passes around my palm when I wrap my hands. As I've said before it's important that when it comes to handwraps that I can make a nice tight fist. Too much wraps over my palms prevents me in doing so. Basically I just fold it a few times over my knuckles for a good cushion and I tape it down so it doesn't get undone before I wrap in between my fingers. I saw this done at another gym and I stuck with it ever since. Wrapping in between the fingers keeps it from moving and gives a little support to the whole thing.
using the long wrap. you want to come over the knuckles and bring it back and forth several times over the knuckle in order to build a pillow.. then wrap around the palm and in between the fingers over the pillow you created. its much easier and leaves you with no bulk in the palm region of the hand , for easy close fist. very effective in protecting the hand.Quote:
