scoring a fight
Takedowns play a big part in scoring MMA, so my question is do score a fighter restanding a fight equally to a takedown? Do you count a takedown if they end up in the other fighters guard? Also watching Nate Diaz in his last fight on TUF: He was taken down early in the first round, both fighters were landing punches, but obviously Maynard's from the top were better, but Nate almost landed several subs. Do you score very close sub attempts?

Re: scoring a fight
MMA fights are so hard to score for me because I'm a boxing fan at heart and always have been, and I can understand the stand up aspect of MMA. When it gets in the clinch or on the ground, I can tell who is controlling the fight but if it's a BJ Penn - George St. Pierre type fight where both guys are on the ground and it's back and forth a lot with lots and sweeps and everything and where it seems someone different is top every other second then it's hard to judge. I always have a difficult time with that. I've never thought of even scoring a guy who gets the fight to stand up off the ground but now that I think that is very valid.
Maybe I'm not the best guy to reply to this topic because I don't bother with scoring fights, I just watch them and until I learn more about the ground game I just hope for an exciting fight.
