My Father Is Pissed At Me

I have been looking through catalouges for a decent recliner. I need to start sleeping in one because of my back problems.

So... my father, who is aware that I have been looking to get a Lay-Z-Boy for the living room rolls up in front of my house this morning with one on the back of his truck.

"OH JOY!" I thought outloud as I approach the vehicle. "Where did you get this I ask."

"The paper." He smiled trimphantly.

"So it's used?" I ask afraid of the answer.

"Yes,and?" He says already getting angry.

"Dad, what makes you think I want a ratty old chair that some old man probably died in?"

He just got in his truck and drove off.

Sory dude i have to laugh, i have had so many incidents similar with my pops, they hate it when they have gone out of there way and you throw it back at them!! Man give him a day or two he'll be fine! ;D

Yeaa..Thats a typical dad thing..Give it some time and space and he'll either agree with you and forget it.. Or he wont say he agrees but he'll accept it..

Bet he did it on purpose knowing youd say what you did so he could get one for himself :P

Personally I wouldnt give two shits where it came from. As long as it functioned as was in good nick it would do for me. It at least takes the financial pressure off you for a time.

So we both unwrap to find the same cheap shitty wallet with the same cheap shitty watch..

Now..I have a awesome watch and a nice italian leather wallet.. Both given to me by my mum the previous christmas

So he didnt ask whether i needed or had a watch or wallet,

But the main thing that had me pissed was not how much they cost or anything like that..

But the lack of thought he had put into buying these presents when you have two twin sons..

Who as twin sons do have been dressed the same when they were young had to share all this shit bla bla bla and Im a young man now and the fact that i am given the same watch and wallet as my twin brother when im a young man and i dont wana still be that twinny boy..

Took the piss cos he put no thought into that and its really an obvious thing to think of ..

But i didnt have the heart to say.. Wheres the thought in this.. bit shit aint it..

I was just like..Thank you, wore the watch for a day and forgot about it..

Might have been best to say..Oh shit thanks old man and stick it in the living room only to be sat on by you when your pops comes round

I love my dad. Still, not enough to fall asleep in a dead man's chair. I don't know for sure if a bitter old man drew his last breathe in that thing, but neither does my father.

I need the chair to get quality rest and that is NOT POSSIBLE if I have to worry about a curse from beyond the grave every time the lights go out.

Everyone knows that I am scared of ghosts. My girlfriend has an antique clock that is over 90 years old. It stays in the trunk of her car because I don't want that creepy ass thing keeping track of "my time."

I understand where you are coming from with the watch and wallet deal. Last year for Christmas my stepfather gave me a gift certificate to Red Lobster... that he got from one of the companies he works for.

Stepfathers and fathers are not the same, but the principal is.

Just put a quilt over it or a blanket and tuck in the side and it will be fine.

I'm not saying to just agree with your pops and give in. All I'm saying is I'm sure you could have approached him differently.
Like I mentioned in the other thread someone did about 'What age is it OK for you to kick your dads ass'.
I love and respect my pops, sure we disagree especially on sport related stuff and the arguments get pretty heated but I know my place and I know what to say and what not to say.

I'll tell you a quick story. My mom has 5 sisters (my aunts) well one of them my aunt Adriana used to butt heads with her grandmother and her grandmother used to always try to do right for them but Adriana would always be nonechalant about things and not pay much attention. Whenever something was done for her she'd complain about it.
Their grandmother passed away 1 day, Adriana never got a chance to hug her or kiss her or thank her or talk to her.
Theres not a single family reunion where my aunt Adriana doesn't end up crying and sayin 'God please forgive me for not appreciating her while she was here, please I knew know better I was stupid and ignoran'
Shes never been to her grave site because she feels embarrased and says that whats the use of going now if she can't hugg her or tell her thank you to her face....
Anyway... BG just make sure your aware of what your doing. I know your a very skeptical person BUT again I'm pretty sure you could have approached your pops in a different way.

My father figure was my grandfather once he went about a year ago, i can no longer tolerate my moms husband and just about every other family member.
