In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
I'm a reasonable man, so convince me that he does deserve it or doesn't.
He's on the slide of his career and it's probably safe to say the wars have finally caught up to him.
(If you believe otherwise... you really have no idea how much wars this man has been through...
.... and if you still believe ... just pretend Castillo retired today.)
He's probably not going to fight at the world class level again.
In the twillight of his career, I ask...
Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
A brief summary:
He had a rough resume, Javier Jauregui to start with, who TKO'd Castillo twice in each matchup.
Then JLC met the ever talented Stevie Johnston in close matcheups, one in a majority decision in favor of Castillo and the last in a draw.
In a close fight with young Mayweather, the toughened man fought the rising star, PBF, who impressively fought to a close decision. Everybody saw a close match and eventually the judges saw it Floyd's way. In a rematch, many saw it Floyd's way once again, this time with less argument.
He fought Juan Lazcano and possibly ended a bright future for the talented young man.
The same can be said of Julio Diaz.
Jose when on to defeat Casamayor in vintage Joel Casamayor fashion or what could be called a "close decision."
Then fought Diego in two great fights, one of them being the best of this decade (some predict century). In a controversial weight advantage, he easily KO'd Corrales in the rematch.
In the slide of his career, he lost in a fourth round KO to Ricky Hatton. Note that it is unfair to state this question right at the start of a devastating loss. But it's a question that was meant for what's probably Castillo's last hurrah. He's been in SOME WARS MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
State and argue your case.
Add more to the summary if you wish.

No, the greatest fight was a defeat and his resume doesn't have any hue wins apart from Corrales II and that victory was tarnished due to his weight problems.
Re: In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
Without a doubt imo, two time World Champion, beat Johnson when no one expected him to was involved in probably fight of the the century. Gave the best fighter in the game right now and probably top 20 ever hardest fight of his life.
Put it this way if Barry Mcguigan is a hall of famer who defened his one World Title twice? Castillo is without a doubt.
Re: In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
He did beat Johnston but should Lloyd Honeyghan be in the HOF because he upset Donald Curry or Buster Douglas because he beat Mike Tyson. He was in one o the best fights ever but he lost it. He did do well against Floyd and nearly (some say should) have won, but Hall Of Fame careers arent built on nearlys.
Re: In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
Not hall of famer, but pretty close. I have him as a top 20 lightwegiht ever.

Yeah but by that logic Arturo Gatti wouldn't be headed to the hall of fame and we all know he is.

I love Gatti, but to me he isn't HOF quality
Re: In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
He's gonna get in if you ask me. He has fought everyone possible, if he can go out with a few wins, even if theyre not top tier guys he can cement his place in the hall. If you are arguing he lost big fights, so did Duran, he's in.

He wouldn't be in my hall of fame list. His two biggest 'victories' were in fact losses. He beat Stevie Johnston but correct me if I'm wrong Johnston is no hall of fame fighter?
Wins over Lazcano and Diaz mean about as much as Hattons wins over Urango and Maussa.
So it comes down to three opponents.
Diego Coralles, 1 -1 got KTFO in the first fight, won by cheating in the second
Mayweather 0 - 2 lost both times, first fight was controversial but he still lost, second was definite win for Floyd.
Casamayor 1-0 Not seen the fight myself but was supposedly very close and could have gone either way.
Not a hall of fame resume imo
Re: In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
2 of the losses he suffered against Mayweather and Corrales were controversial. If you ask me Weeks should have given Castillo a standing eight count, after allowing Corrales all that time with the mouthpiece....I had Castillo winning the Floyd fight and so did Lederman and Merchant. It seems to me that Castillo is always getting the short end from refs...NO NEED TO TYPE IN CAPS MY EYES ARE FINE. :-*
Re: In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
He is borderline HOF and i hope he makes it, 47KO's in 55 wins is pretty damn good!
Robbed against Maywather and the Corrales fight alone should get him in!!
Re: In the twillight of his career, Is Castillo a Hall of Famer?
He is a hall of famer just on his fight with Corrales. That fight belongs in the hall of fame. But to say that Castillo is a hall of fame fighter you have to say no.

Wow ... :o Personally, I believe that was one of the best posts I have ever read.
:coolclick: to ALL, great read and opinions, I mean it.

I would say but but as skel has pointed out, they let Baz in so why not 8) hell why not put Laila Ali in while we're handing them out.
