Why should PBF-Hatton be the next big fight?
Come to think of it? Why should this be the next big fight? Don't Ricky and Floyd have enough credible, hungry, big-name opponents in their own weight divisions? Why doesn't Hatton fight Ricardo Torres next? What about Malignaggi? Witter? How does Ricky get to skip directly to "GO... collect $200" (old Monopoly game, for the uninformed).
What about Floyd? He's got: Cotto, Margarito, Cintron, Clottey. All bonafide 147-pounders that would be itching at getting a shot at the # 1 p4p. Why Hatton? And at what weight would it be? Would Floyd go down to 140? Playing into Hatton's hands? Worse yet, would he go to 140, go to Wembley, and fight with a "hug-friendly" referee? A sure victory for Hatton, to be sure. And then what? Hatton would automatically vault to # 1 p4p? Why?
If you go strictly by division rankings right now, aren't there more logical matches out there to be made?

Both undefeated , both got questions marks over them , both in their primes ,
now is the time,
Cotto - Hasn't fought a Tsyzu or a Castillo yet
Margarito - Yes fair enough he could have a shot
Cintron - Just is not high profile like Margarito and Hatton
Clottey - Just lost to Margarito
This feels like a pointless thread , who would care about Hatton vs Torres... both PBF and Hatton will probably live to fight another day, they can fight minor fights later.

Personally I would rather see Cotto-PBF or Mosley-PBF, but money talks and you know what the other stuff does. I'm starting to like Hatton so I do hope he gets this fight, but if I had to choose a big fight I would choose the first two I mentioned. If Williams beats Margarito maybe we'll see Cotto/Mosley winner vs PBF/ Hatton winner. That would be sweet. This is all pending that DLH doesn't get a hair up his ass and snatches one of these fights up for himself. ;)

it does since winky id fighting at LHW and pac is at 130... that leaves guys like hatton and cotto - since hatton is a former champion at WW its the best v the best for that fight...

That's a pretty shaky argument, to say the least. Hatton had one very questionable victory at WW, thought about it better, and scurried back down to Jr. WW. Cotto, meanwhile, is a natural 147-pounder and is also undefeated.
Now, and try to follow here.... what makes more sense: a 140-pound champion fighting a 147-pound champion? Or two 147-pound champions fighting each other?

Yeah, this statement I agree with but over all reasons because I don't believe it can be business wise if Ricky runs into risk to test his strength and chin at 147 lbs again, there is absolutely no credible welterweight Hatton may take at the present moment and still make that Floyd fight more interesting afterwards - now that he beat Castillo whose name is always associated with Mayweather's, Hatton has the opportunity to cash in big time... As far as Floyd is concerned and after the Hoya fight and 24/7on HBO, there will be always great interest in watching him fight ( or speak) whomever...

was a time when everyone in the world wanted the 160 chamop (hopkins) to fight the 175 champ (rjj) - bet u were one of the ones wanting it too;)

But no, I was never keen on Hopkins vs Jones Jr. While I admire BHop as a fighter, I've never liked his fighting style. And 15 pounds is a lot to lose or make up.

Excellent question Titofan,one which no one has really answered yet.Hmm.I see it like this,Hatton is taking the fight because he is running out of options. Hatton is the best.....at 140....at 147,he has not done much,nowhere as much as Mosley,Cotto and Margarito. Hatton knows that he does not have the option of fighting these guys,they are too big and too strong for him. Floyd isnt'.
As for Floyd,it's easy,it makes business sense. Out of the 4 names(Cotto,Shane,Margarito and Hatton_) Hatton is the highest reward,$$$ wise is also the lowest risk. Styles make fights and his is easiest to handle for Floyd. Also,at 147,he looked far from impressive in his last outing against a guy nowhere as slick as Floyd.
This is far from the best v the best. I don't think Hatton is top 5@WW.However,I give some credit to Floyd for taking the fight.

Seriously folks..... I realize Hatton-mania is all the rage right now, what with his fresh win over a big name like Castillo. But if you look at it objectively, what makes Hatton more deserving than say... a Cotto, or a Margarito... to get a shot at Floyd? And why should Floyd be able to take on a great 140-pounder, but highly questionable 147-pounder? If his quest to be "a legend" is for real, shouldn't he clean out his OWN division first? Before he goes looking for people in lower weight divisions?
