Fighters you hated but went on to like
I hated Holmes for beating Ali, but went on to look at his record and admired it especially after fights with Holyfield and Mercer. I also hated Hearns for beating Andries but he is now my favourite fighter of the fab 4. I hated Macullum and Julian Jackson for beating Herol Graham and went on to admire and support their careers. I also hated Trinidad for beating Obar Carr and Campus but totally supported him after that. Does anyone have similar experiences?

I hated Antonio Tarver for beating Roy Jones but for some reason i have grew to like him.
I also once hated Winky Wright for beating Mosley twice but i have since forgiven him
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
an obvious answer, i hated MAB after the first fight with Morales (although Morales won, just didn't like MAB lol) then really admired him after he put on a whooping on Hamed, then disliked him again after the bs decision in the rematch, and again he has my respect after his gutsy performance against Juarez in the first fight and against Marquez, and also his beautiful boxing display in the rematch against Juarez
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Hatton after beating Castillo. I'm not saying it was an amazing feat. I was just happy to see him do something other than make a fight go 12 by holding.
Jermaine Taylor. I was bitter when he got the first Hopkins fight and hated him until he did Winky in. Or whatever you want to call what happened in the Wright fight. ;D
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Duran-for obvious reasons
Camacho-going back and watching his fights in his prime,he was a wonderful technician in the ring,I didnt appreciate it at the time
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
"Hate" is a strong word, but I disliked Vargas intensely for his arrogance in and out of the ring. After the Tito fight, however, I've come to respect him as a warrior who goes out on his shield, like he himself has said.
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Shane Mosley, I didn't like him for not fighting Vargas and for also getting a gift in the rematch vs Oscar.

Probably would make more sense to hate the judges that gave him the gift.
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Swoosh.
I used to think James Toney was an arsehole... I still do sometimes! :P
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Used to really hate Roy Jones for his mouth, but then I realized how immature it was to watch boxing with that kind of emotion and not even giving a single thought as to whether he's doing it to sell the fight (kinda like rooting for someone just because they're from your geographical location, it's juvenile :)). I still can't believe I let that kind of emotion not let me apreciate a phenom like Roy... Could care a less what comes out of a fighters mouth nowdays, how someone fights is the only thing to be concerned with in my opinion.
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
I hated Manny when he first beat MAB and drew with JMM. I like him now though. I have a love/hate thing with B Hop. Sometimes I think he is over rated, then I watch him fight and am amazed by his defensive skills. I dislike Williams because he is fighting Tony, but after the fight,(as ling as Tony wins),I'll like him because he has such a great style to watch.
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Mayweather... i didnt like him for obvious reasons
but actually the 24/7 show made me see how dedicated he was and he is pretty d@mn funny too..
i think he will accept the hardest challenges of any boxing today despite having everything to lose... i respect him the most for that..
i think people say he ducked margo and a couple others throughout the years... It reminds me of RJJ a few years ago i cant remember who he was fighting but he kept saying 60-40 i'll woop ya a$$.. with the right money mayweather would woop anyone neat his weight a$$..
just hopefully not hatton ;D
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Ricky Hatton
Kelly Pavlik
Miguel Cotto
Re: Fighters you hated but went on to like
Tszyu is one of them. My brother's favorite fighter, and I always hated him because of that. I remember him telling me why Tszyu would beat Oscar, that just made me mad. Then I kind of realized that he was a great fighter.
I didn't like Corrales going into the Mayweather fight, really wanted Mayweather to hurt him. Then he started to grow on me and he became one of my favorites after he beat Freitas.
Tyson has always been love hate with me. Grossly overrated, and the notion that he was the best heavyweight ever in his "prime" is ridiculous. And it's something a lot of people believe. But he's a fascinating character and is fun to watch.
