The new king of the Bantamweights
With Rafael Marquez now fighting as a Super Bantamweight. The new king of the Bantamweights is without a doubt Luis Perez. I been following "El Demoledor" since 2002 when I first saw him destroy Roberto Bonilla. He went on to dethrone Felix Machado to become the IBF Super Flyweight champion. He made a couple of defenses before losing his title on the scales. He's now the IBF Bantamweight champion. And I would favor him over Hozumi Hasegawa, Jhonny Gonzalez and Wladimir Sidorenko. Luis Perez. Remember the name.
Re: The new king of the Bantamweights
Luis Perez is a good fighter. But I think Jhonny Gonzalez is the top Bantamweight at the moment.

Why has he fought only three times since 2003? I don't know much about him, his record suggests you might be right.

Cancellations of fights, weight problems (already moved up in weight) and had problems with Don King. Those problems are said to be a thing of the past.

Re: The new king of the Bantamweights
I think Hasegawa is the pick of the division followed closely by Gonzalez. Perez scored an impressive victory over Garcia so is definitely in the mix. There are some great potential match-ups @ bantam for Perez with guys like Mabuza & Cordaba rounding out the top 5.
I was really impressed with the way Perez dealt with Machado, especially in the rematch. I think he has the technical ability to hang with the elite around this wait but the biggest problem I have with him is the prolonged bouts of inactivity.
Re: The new king of the Bantamweights
Luis Perez is a slow, robotic fighter. He can be outboxed and in his last few fights all he's seemed to attempt is land his haymaker left hand without following up with anything. This of course could be because of weight issues. He was consensly beaten by Dimitri Kirilov in his last title defense in the super flyweight division. He doesn't make weight for his next fight, so somehow Don King gets him another title shot at Bantamweight with the same organization he held the belt for at super flyweight, the IBF. Now with that being said, I still enjoy watching Perez fight. He has a lot of power and solid technique. Though I wouldn't rate him as the top bantanweight over Jhonny Gonzalez.
Re: The new king of the Bantamweights
As of now the #1 spot belongs to Jhonny followed closely by Hozumi and in 3rd Veeraphol.
The division is shaping up really nice and Perez has def. stepped it up a notch. If he can manage to stay more active and continue to win he will def. move up in rankings.
Re: The new king of the Bantamweights
Jhonny is the king of the division. If we could just see Gonzalez vs. Hasegawa that would
be the division defining fight IMO (ala. Kessler vs. Calzaghe)
Perez needs to get more active no doubt before we can say he's the king of the division.
Jhonny hasn't lost at 118 since 2002.
Hasegawa hasn't lost since 2001.
Luis Perez had an impressive win last Saturday, but I'm not sold on him yet.
Re: The new king of the Bantamweights
I know nothing of him that I could say with certainty. I will keep an eye on him though, Mr. Demise.

As much as I loved watching Veeraphol fight. The man is shot. There is no way he can be considered the 3rd best Bantamweight at the moment.
