is it ok to train with two trainers?
hello everybody. i have two trainers at my gym that are both really good. and i was thinking of training one week with one and the other week with the other trainer. the thing is that they have two totally different styles. will it put me back training both styles? will it make it harder for me to become good being that one week im training one style and the other week im training another. or will it make me better and it will be better for me? im sorry if i make it hard to understand me i dont know how to put it in better words, i hope you guys understand what im trying to say.thanks.
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
I have three coaches at the moment who do not really agree on much. I find it makes things difficult because what one coach agrees with is a mistake to another. If I had the choice I'd just choose one coach.
Having said that I think it's good to know of other styles and other people's perspectives so if you can train with both for a while without committing to fighting under them it might be good.
I guess it could also depend on how different they are and how they react to you using things taught by the other coach. I'd love it if I was allowed to take what I could from each coach and use it as I was able to learn it rather than being banned from using other skills until I have learnt their individual styles completely regardless of whether or not they suit me.
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
Yes and no
Im Feur's main trainer, but she trains elsewhere as well
We go over anything she learns elsewhere, and we toss the crap out,but alot of times, either
A)It reminds me of something she should be learning(nobodies perfect,I forget stuff too)
B)It allows me to point out ways to beat stupid styles(if someones training it,someones using it,best be ready to exploit it)
But I thinks its best to have a main trainer, but be ready to learn from anyone
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
As a beginner, IMO, you're BEST to train with different people. It exposes you to more fight philosophy. I used to work mitts with anyone who was available. Then, once you move beyond that beginner stage, you'll likely stick with one guy because you like the style. Now I stick to one or two guys too because their philosophies are very similar.
See, trainers have a habit of teaching the way THEY were taught, or the way THEY liked to fight. But that doesn't always mean THEIR way is best for YOU. Only YOU can figure that out over time.
For example, we have one trainer at our gym...a very good trainer...but he won't let guys get square for any reason. I like to square up on my combos and inside...it's comfortable for ME...he don't like that, so I don't work with him. Nothing personal, great guy, but his style isn't quite right for ME.
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
where i am at that is an excellent way to start a gym war...coaches put their boxers against each other or worse yet no one will even help you put gloves on...maybe that's just a D.C. thing....but do be careful egos get hurt rather easy sometimes
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
Has anyone ever heard of the saying, "Too many cooks spoil the brew"? I remeber Callazo fighting some guy I can't remember who, but he must have had 4-5 different trainers, no one could run a corner and everyone was like a chicken with their head cut off. Now this might not be the case with a good trainer, but with multiple trainers I can only imagine the kind of confusion that it would create for a fighter.
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
In my gym I am sure the policy is a fighter trains with one coach only. There are usually 3 coaches in the gym at the same time but it appears that a coaches work with their own fighters and dont really interfere with each others coaching methods, especially with the pros. The only time I have seen a coach interfere was when a coach came from his lunch and started shouting at his fighter for pissing about on the heavybag, but another coach told him he had been going flat out for ages and was just warming down.

Anything can start a gym war, including high humidity, might as well make yourself the best fighter you can be
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
true, but nothing is worse for a beginner than no one to work with in a coach rich environment. was just saying, find the gym protocol written or otherwise and stick too it..

I don't follow... maybe i dont understand what a gym war is... i thought that was just taking guys from one gym to spar people in another. Are you saying if you train at more than one gym the people at both will get pissy?
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
in my gym, if you do as i did and start with one coach, find out the hard way he is full o' crap and switch sometimes the first won't talk to you and sometimes he will instruct fighters to hurt you ...this happened in my gym to a young talented female amateur...she switched gyms with her trainer...i didn't wish to cause confusion with my gym war comment, mostly it is guys sparing...but it can also be when coaches and fighters take sides against each other and hurt each others development...i only train with a coach who is in shape, has been a pro fighter and shows concern for each fighter and their development not how he came up and how he prefers to box...
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
Makes sense, thanks for the clarification. I actually just switched gyms/ trainers so I wasn't sure if you were saying there would be a hit out on me now.

Thats painfully childish on those trainers fault,I encourage looking at other trainers
I may call everything they come back with b-s,but if someones training it,someones doing it,might as well see whats out there
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
i agree there trainer monkey...and lol i could only imagine a hitman sent out after some poor shmuck tries to get a trainer that fits right...course i bet it has happened...
Re: is it ok to train with two trainers?
If it doesnt work out for you, just bring them trainers together and say "listen fellas I want you two to just shake shake hands and we all let by gones be by gones and when they get closer you bang their heads together.
