Green's sparring session with Toney

For anyone who hasn't seen Danny Green sparring James Toney, it's great footage. Green is all heart and Toney all mouth.

That was back in the day, James Toney used to be a pimp, now he's just (to quote Jim Lampley) "A fat tub of goo."

From memory at the end of the sparring Toney starts cursing all the Australians and yells `Kevin get my gun I'm gonna shoot every last one of these mutha.....s''

Don't know what Green would have been thinking... Toney absolutely played with him, talking trash the whole time and landing huge rights whenever he felt like it... And Green was really really playing into Toney's abilities just trying to hurt him with everything he could throw.. Did Toney pay him for the target practice I wonder?

Green seemed to be holding his own against a much larger man. Hardly target practice. Anyway loads of good fighters have been schooled by Toney, a lot worse than that.

It's sparring and he was a sparring partner for Toney not the other way around. A sparring partner's job especially one of Toney's is to just be a punching bag and a recipticle of abuse. ;)

Im not sure that's true though... I heard that Green actually called Toney out and challenged him to a sparring session. I mean this was only a couple of years ago, so what good would sparring a SMW do for Toney, when campaigning at HW for the championship ???

Toney just does that to get under people's skin...he does it to EVERYBODY!! He'll call Malcom X a Uncle tom!!

Danny Green would be the last boxer in the world to call someone out and challenge them to a sparring session the guy is a perfect gentleman. I've never heard that story but I'd say 99% certain that that never happened Green just ain't the kind of guy to get involved with smack talking a guy like James Toney.

From what I remember at the time Green didnt exactly call him out but he did let it be known in no uncertain terms that he fancied his chances with Toney. Toney eventually obliged him.

Minus the roids, Toney would be stopped by big bad Wlad IMO.

He wasnt always on roids
