Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter
There are a lot of things that make a fighter great. Skill, speed, power, chin, heart, footwork, consistency, etc. Certain fighters spring to mind that had or have all of that. SRR, Ali, Pernell Whitaker, Ricardo Lopez, Henry Armstrong, Roberto Duran, JCC, but the one guy who for me really had it all, is Sugar Ray Leonard. Some of the fighters above were greater but as far as having everything, he had it. Marvin Hagler also stands out to me. Anyone think of another fighter more deserving of the #spot than SRL?
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter
For me bro... ROBINSON!!!
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter
Roy Jones Jr For certain..
He could have proved it more then he did though imo.. But he has to be appreciated no matter what could have been..
I believe if it were not for gerald Mclellan and his unfortunate circumstance then Roy could have been the G.o.a.t
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter

The only reason i dindnt mention him is cause of his heart and chin. He may have a big heart but he never had to show it, and his chin was good but not great.

Gavilan and LaMotta to name two. He beat plenty of great fighters at Middleweight too.
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter
Gavilan wasnt and who other than Robinson did Lamotta beat Cardans shoulder went early when he beat him so that dont count. The closer you look at that era nothing is what it seems
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter

I can't believe i didn't mention Roy Jones duh but i will throw a name in the hat and say.
Salvador Sanchez.
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter
Robinson was the complete package. A win against a great welter in his prime or not he ticks all the boxes.

P4P probably the best ever.
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter
old era..ray robinson
new era..floyd mayweather
would say roy but he wasn't complete..he could never fight on the inside
Re: Greatest "Complete Package" Fighter
Without a doubt James "LightsOut" Toney!
i cant think of a most complete fighter. i've heard other ppl in the game say the same thing. dan goosen toney;s promoter also said it long after i started watching toney. you cant say he's being biased cos promoters dont say that about everyfighter. he said " if you had to use a chip for the perfect fighter then JT would be it" and i agree. now i will tell u why.
in terms of skill, its world class, he could go in with anyone no matter how skillful.
awesome is the word used for his defense, and craftiness. i have watched his early day fights and he has had solid defense since day 1, although it took him a while to perfect in sparring.
he could fight in anyway, we saw him be the aggressor against tim littles, and the counter puncher against jirov (i see the hatton mayweather being similar) he could fight going forward, backward and side to side. technically he has everything.
he could fight any styles although he is at his most effective against sluggers, he is still good with swarmers. he is very patient too when needs to be.
he is a good puncher, his technique is great cos he has carried the power all the way to HW, although he is not a 1 punch ko artist at HW. he has speed, has good footwork when needs to use it. but his defense is so good he doesnt have to use his feet much. just watch the holyfield fight, he was hurting holyfield with almost all his punches and the sound of the punches... :o
the other thing is he has a great chin, he fought the most dangerous HW and basicallly kicked his arse the first time. the second i think he was drained, toney is betta of eatcing pizza and chicke during training than salads.
with a fighter of his fighting style it is rare they have the tough guy aura which toney has. he has the attitude of a fighter, doesnt act like a pussy. he doesnt give a shit and talks alot.
he is willing to fight anybody anywhere anytime since day one and his track record proves he talks the talk and walks the walk. this is rare, this type of fighter, a fighter with technical brilliance, awesome defense, awesome chin, excellent power and speed. and having the aura of a guy not to be messed with! he says hell fight anybody and has done from 160 to 260!!! he has never been stopped due to the fact he has great defense, chin and i thought chris eubank was a stubborn bastard.
he was hit on the back of the head by sam peter in the second fight and still went the distance. guys at featherweight get hit at the back of the heAd and they seem to fade as the rounds go on, trust me it affects a fighter big time when hit their and i was surprised to see toney go through that fight. awesome awesome fighter. and he loves to fight.
he is a much more complete fighter than a b-hop, and im a b-hop fan. apparently just before the holyfield fight b-hop ask toney for a fight, when toney accepted, b-hop back out. this is what happened in the calzaghe situation. b-hop asks for fights and backs when the unexpected "lets go" response comes back!
there is always something lacking in great fighters, for example, mayweather doesnt fight everyone, doesnt stand infront and fight instead runs. some fighters are their just for the money and a are boring. we get some guys who hype it in press conferences and fight just as recklessly as they talk. but toney imo is the PERFECT FIGHTER.
the other fighter that comes 2nd but by a long shot is SRR
