When will there be one belt again
There are so many champions nowadays i am starting to find it hard to follow and every day i see a new champ but holding a belt seems not to mean much of any more. Hell if you dont have a belt you must not be a good fighter because if you were you be bound to get some sort of belt there the ibf ibo wbo wba wbc and couple more belts after that and seems there is always a problem with unifying the belts so i dont see when they are going to fix the problem with champions seems like it is ever going happen and it makes me sad i wish it go back to jsut having one belt or atleast back to one champion i even be happier if they acomplish that but i am not holding my breath on that one

Virgil Hill said to me in an interview once..."If you hold a title in this sport there is a 50% chance your doing something wrong"......Ten seconds later he said...."I hate every sanctioning body there is..They have made more money then I have off my sanctioning fee's....The only reason I keep my title is the fact I am guarenteed the bigger purse..If it wasn't for that I would refuse to have one" ....That coming from a 3 or 4 time world champion so what does that say about the sanctioning bodies....
2 weeks ago Hopkins said in a press confrence " I love being the LHW Ring Champion. I don't have to pay sanctioning fees and I don't have to fight guys not worthy of a title shot..Plus it shows I am the true champion of the division"
Re: When will there be one belt again
One thing that pisses me off at the start of fights, why do they never anounce that The ring title is up for grabs, or still the ABC and RING ... champion!
its a shame more fighters don't renounce their belts and go for the ring...
The only prob with that belt is there are no forced fights, it does leave the option for a fighter to hand pick his fights... not saying they would, but they could...
Re: When will there be one belt again
Nope never. Boxing needs a governing body that is sanctioned by all countries boxing commissions abit like FIFA for Soccer.
It would take a miracle to happen.
Re: When will there be one belt again
well the things they can do i guess are the following
Re: When will there be one belt again
They need some rich guy to buy out the belts i agree with that
Re: When will there be one belt again
Then they need to have some soft of tournament for the belts
Re: When will there be one belt again
And they need to get ride of the belts that are not ibf and wbc and maybe keep the wba belt
Re: When will there be one belt again
And they need to atleast need to make the heavyweight unifyer if any thing
Re: When will there be one belt again
And those are all my thoughts want to say everything i can because i am going i love to hear eveyr ones thoughts on the subject just to hear what they think boxing should to fix teh problem
Re: When will there be one belt again
There already is: The Ring Champion! Although their policy has it's flaws which the magazine clearly admits it is the best alternative the the alphabet idiots!!!
Re: When will there be one belt again
You wouldn't need an international org..If the US had a federal boxing commision that would only allow one sanctioning body at US venues and recognize only one ranking system then whatever that body was would end up being recognized internationally simply b/c championship fights in the US is where the money is at. We really need a federal commission for a number of reasons
1. Make all state orgs fall under one body and use unified standards
2. Regulate the type of promotional and manager contracts a fighter can sign...IE no rights on future fights
3. Setup a better pension
4. Make a legit ranking system with meaningful mandatories
5. Get rid of shady sanctioning fees etc etc
it would make a world of difference.
Re: When will there be one belt again
Will never happen, even though the WBC lately seems to have the majority of the best champions. The main problem IMO is when a champion tries to unify with another champion one of them will get stripped of their title. It would help a little bit if you wouldn't get stripped of your title for unifying it.

Because the Ring is just a boxing magazine and is not a real belt. Plus each fight is sanctioned by one of the four recognised belts and they sure arn't going to give any credibility to a rival. Can't remember who it was now but one boxer was stripped of his WBC title a fews years back because he came into the ring with his WBC and IBO belts on show and the WBC didn't recognise the IBO as a legitimate organisation.
Finally if the Ring did become a real belt it would just end up like all the others.
