My god Evander is still fighting
I love Evander he is a great fighter and i never seen some take a beating and come back like he did so many times. But he needs to stop fighting before he becomes a vegetable. I mean the man is 44 years old and he's not even close to what he use to be and if he some how wins the what is he going to do defend it agasint wald and get his brains based in i mean maybe 10 years ago he could do it but not now. Evander is no Forman he is not a power guy who can knock someone out cold when he is getting beat he denpends on his speed and stanima and footwork which is the first thing to go when you get old so i personal think he should get out why he can and enjoy the money he work his ass off for.

At that time the WBO was not really recognozed as one of the big 4..it was up and coming but not solidified
Re: My god Evander is still fighting
Ok and I'll probably get sadclicked to death for this but the way I see it Evander is pursuing his dream. It's become a life goal for him to be the only 5 time heavyweight champ in boxing's history and he's prepared to risk his health to do it.
Please don't misunderstand me I really really don't want to see any harm come to him he's one of my favourite ever fighters but he's risking himself for the kind of awesome pioneering achievement that most of us mortals couldn't even visualise much less achieve.
People risk there lives all the time, climbers die every year, astronauts get blown out of the sky, round the world sailers lose their lives at sea, racing drivers etc. Were their lives wasted? Should they have got jobs in banking instead?
I doubt any of the guys who died would think so. As they say better to live one day as a tiger than a lifetime as a sheep.
Personally I'd take the sheep option everytime but some people just have bigger goals than I.
It's his life, his dream and his risks to take. As long he wants to continue, providing he passes the medicals and gets licensed I'll root for him.
If God forbid anything did happen to him, like everyone I'd be gutted but at least he would have gone out doing what he was born to do.
Re: My god Evander is still fighting
It's not that he's gonna die, Bilbo. It's not that simple. It's that he may end up a cripple, brain-damaged, or worse. Then it becomes a quality of life issue.
I'm not against anyone pursuing their dreams. That's why I maintain that it's the licensing authorities' responsibility to make sure that Evander doesn't get their approval to continue fighting. I don't blame the fighter for wanting to continue getting glory. But I do blame the people that can actually do something to prevent it and don't.

Bilbo, well said! We all have our dreams and as long as we are mentally capable of making our decisions and understanding the risks, why should we be denied "the persuit of happiness"?....CC

I agree with you, but the commisions dont have any real grounds to take Evanders licence. Being 44 isnt enough. He lost three in a row but most fighters have lost more consecutive fights then that and are still fighting.
Re: My god Evander is still fighting
yea but what if evander becomes brain died how sad would that be my god that be horrible. Not that he going to die like that one guy said but what if he ends up a vegetable that worse then death in my opinion
Re: My god Evander is still fighting

I would CAT scan the sh*t out of Evander, and look for any clue that might indicate long-term damage from his many wars over the years. And if you gotta take his license away to protect him from himself, so be it. I know he's been a great champion and a hell of warrior over the years, but you gotta know when to hand over the keys and let someone else drive.

All that has been done...Thats why he was allowed to fight again in the first place.....Sad reality is slurred speech is not enough to strip a guy....The rules clearly stae there has to be a certain amopunt of consecutive KO losses ( each state varies) or the fighter must show he can no longer defend himself in the ring.....

I know, I know. You're right. But rules can be changed. Look, I'm not on some crusade to stop Holyfield from fighting any more. But watching ex-champs keep climbing into the ring well into their 40's is like watching someone commit suicide and not doing anything about it. Boxing used to be a young man's game. Now all these old fogies want to keep coming back for more. Playing into your 40's in baseball or some other non-contact sport is OK, but let's face it. There's plenty of young talent around without us having to resort to watch senior citizens duke it out.
