Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
I've been taking a look back over the last 2/3 years of fights where brain injuries were sustained, and there's a huge correlation showing that the injuries sustained were caused at lower weights, with 8oz Reyes gloves. I think this is worth a look because it's actually quite staggering. Recent high level victims of brain injuries in fights include
Oscar Larios
Czar Amonsot
Victor Burgos
Leavander Johnson
Kostya Tszyu (rumour)
All of these injuries (one fatal) were sustained by 8oz Reyes gloves. Coincidence? If anyone else knows of a recent fight where an inury was sustained with a different type of glove I'd like to hear about it because there is something going on. Does anyone know what gloves Jirov was wearing against Joe Mesi?
Re: Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
not certain about all of them, but alot of those fighter had been in wars, thats mainly down to the problem...
Re: Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
I don't thonk the gloves are the main problem. The punches you recieve cause it.
Re: Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
The thing about reyes gloves being 'punchers' gloves are a myth according to the owner of 'Grant Boxing'
Back in the day they were known for being legitimate punchers gloves but since then he says gloves are made very similarly. I forget the article, i'll see if i can dig it up. It was online somewhere.

Everlasts=Good all around
Title=Good bang for the buck
Grants and Reyes=Either your compensating for lack of power,or you want the fight to be brief,very brief
Re: Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
Lord's Gym posted a awesome article about gloves last year. I thought I had saved the link but I cannot find it in my "favs."
Maybe someone will dig it up and put it here to go along with the topic. ;D
Please.

Agreed.
Re: Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
I think the glove plays it's part,i mean your effectively getting hit with something more like a bare knuckle if the padding is less surely.
I say there is a connection and fighters seem to be getting cut quicker,worse and more often these days imo.
Re: Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
If a fighter wants to cut their opponent's face they can always twist their wrist at the last moment to hit their opponent with the side of their glove. Ali was guilty of this, so was Marciano and many other fighters.
You can also drag your glove hard across your opponent's face like Tyson, or a quick snap and twist of the fist like Joe Louis did can cut skin too.

Naw bro,the way the seams are done glove to glove,will give you a different level of success if your trying to work a cut
If I was trying to do that,per se,Id want Titles over Everlasts
Most of the seams on an Everlast are undertucked and not visible,but the Titles have an open seam on the thumb,you could scrape the hell out of someone with
Re: Should 8oz Reyes Gloves be banned?
Since we're on the subject of Reyes gloves I'm thinking about buying a pair of 14 oz gloves Reyes gloves for training. I'm not looking at the gloves as a means for a quick finish, I tried my friends pair once and that just how it fits, how long his lasted with plenty of miles left is reason enough. Besides I found a good deal on them.

Hah, I thought about that part myself. :D Another way that I thought about since lacing is out of the question is if your corner gave you a little bit of the sticky part of the tape exposed on the outside.
