Is Shane Mosley really that big of a deal anymore, or is he just a big name??
Shane is gonna be an all time great when he retires............. that's a fact.
But................................
In my opinion, he's a loooong ways off from the Mosley of yesteryear.
The reason that I make this bold statement is very simple. The first time that he fought a shot ass Fernando Vargas, he was on his way out by decision or ko. He got the TKO because he kept popping Fernando's eye and swelling it up to the size of a grapefruit before the fight was stopped.
Mosley was gonna lose that fight cause Vargas was coming on real strong in the 2nd half of the fight, nearly dominating in the process.
This would have never happened to the Mosley of old, and I remember watching that fight and thinking (in the later rounds) that Mosley was finished and needed to retire.
The 2nd fight, Vargas was completely shot, and in his following fight, he fought a horribly overrated Luis Collazo and got the UD.
I just thought I'd lay down some opinions before the match with Cotto comes up.
Having said that, I still pick Mosley by a SD over Cotto.

He's a hell of a lot better than Zab Judah, and would beat the living piss out of him... Is that what you wanted to hear ??? Nah, I can't totally disagree that Mosley isn't as sharp as he used to be, but he's still a hell of a fighter.. He wouldn't have lost that fight to Vargas whatsoever, I don't know what you were watching really... First off he was way ahead on the cards even if Vargas was coming on strong(for you to say he was dominating any point is completely ridiculous, Vargas only won a couple rounds imo).. Secondly, to say he would have lost if it hadn't been for that swelling on Vargas eye is just as ridiculous. That beachball on the side of Vargas face was caused entirely by hard punches... Go ahead and watch the stoppage again, Mosley was landing more big shots right on the swelling forcing the ref to step in... It's more likely that Vargas would have suffered a detached retina and lost his sight in the eye, rather than Mosley losing if the fight had continued... And sure in the rematch Vargas was shot, you can even say that Collazo was overrated if that makes you feel better.... But the simple fact is Mosley has looked much better each time he's fought.. In fact since losing two fights against Winky he's looked significantly sharper every single time he's laced them up. Hardly a signal that he needs to retire ::**

Well this fight will show us if it's time to call it quits or if he's still got it. I mean if he loses a wide ud or gets knocked out (unlikely) then he needs to retire, but if he wins or looses a close decision then he still got it in him. I don't remember the first vargas fight, but in the second vargas was like a robot didn't move at all, completely shot, can't believe he's getting in the ring again actually. The collazo fight didn't tell us much either since he won it rather easily, and I don't know if collazo was just over rated or if he really did mess up his hand in the 3rd like he said that it prevented him from performing to his best. Hopefully mosley still got it and this will turn out to be a great fight!

Well Collazo beat Hatton in the eyes of many and then Mosely took him to school! I hardly think Collazo's overated if he lost a very controversial desision to Hatton. Mosely's still got it..I hope he has anyway. I want to see him expose Cotto..I just know there are cracks in Cotto's game. I think Mosely is the one to find them.

Shane Mosley isnt as quick as he was but he is still up there with the best of them, I think he will beat Cotto with his movement and speed and imop he is the man to beat Mayweather. Hatton is also one of my favourite fighters but I think Sugar Shane has more chance of beating Mayweather and thats why Mayweather is avoiding Shane and fighting Hatton instead. Mosley really wants the fight with Mayweather and once he gets it (if) I think he will retire. Hopefully after KOing Floyds arse!!

I dont think Mayweather is necessary ducking Mosley but Shane has been calling Floyd out for quite a while.
I give Mayweather full respect for coming out of retirement and fighting Hatton but I think he has took a bit of an easier option in fighting Hatton rather than Mosley, but who can blame him. Like you said Icecold if Mosley beats Cotto then hopfully Shane will get his chance!

i'm one of mayweather's biggest supporters and even i know he's ducking shane...i could care less if he beats hatton, because hatton is nothing more than a strong version of gatti and floyd won't get much credit for taking him to school like gatti...hatton will miss a lot of leaping left hooks and eat leather all night long...shane has and always will be the one with realistic chance of beating mayweather...at 147 shane beats floyd easily with his work rate alone..floyd can't win he he doesn't punch and his work rate isn't that high at 147 and he's great but he stand in the pocket and make shane miss..if shane connects it will show weather floyd can bang with a true boxer-puncher....

Don't forget Mayweather offered himself to Mosely when Mosley was more in his prime but Mosley was on holiday! I hate how quick people are to accuse Mayweather of 'ducking'. I don't think Mosley would beat Mayweather at this stage in his career but it would be interesting. Who knows the fight may still happen!

Isn't Mosley the WBC interim champ or WBC no.1 ranked? It seems the logical option for Mayweather and Mosley to get it on now.
If Mayweather actually called out Mosley, rather than call him a sparring partner and the fight was made, if anything, Hatton would be sidelined in most of our minds.
Besides, can anyone here honestly say Hatton is a bigger fight than Mosley?
Dont get me wrong its great that Hatton is fighting Mayweather... But only because we all know how much Hatton wanted it.

75% of Mosley is still better than 90% of the other fighters out there.

Going back to the original question.
Yes Mosley is still a huge threat to anyone who steps in the ring with him.
Mosley was always a bit too small for 154 and he still did a damn good job there if you ask me. I did think the first fight with Vargaz was closer than some have said here. But you gotta remember that Vargaz, even that Vargaz, was really strong and could manhandle and over power most at 154. He was giving DLH a real tough fight in the first half and looked to be too strong for Oscar untill Oscar stepped it up and took control of the fight.
Vargaz is very much underrated after his loss to Tito. He has only lossed to the very best (Trinidad, De la Hoya and Mosley) and was going into the fight with 4 straight wins including a UD over Javier Castillejo who only last year KOed Sturm for a MW title. I know this is not really that impressive but the point is Vargaz was still a top fighter when he fought Mosley.
I also don't think anyone was overrating Collazo. He is a fast slick boxer who had just given Ricky Hatton, the universally recognized Undisputed 140lb champ, the toughest fight of his career. Mosley was just the better man and showed his quickness is back as a 147lber.
With that said....I don't want nobody talking no sh*t when my boy Cotto smacks that a**

This is where some Alphabet shit is getting fucked up, after PBF won the WBC 154 lb title, the WBC stated that he would vacate the 147 lb title it if he didn't make an immediate defense against Mosley and Mosley would be the
WBC 147 Champ, however, now that all this money is involved PBF will in fact be defending the WBC 147 lb title
against Hatton, and Mosley is kinda left out in the cold with a title he should have inherited, although I haven't heard
"Sugar" complain.

The 1st Vargas fight was getting close, but to say VArgas was gonna KO Shane ??? What a load of Shat, Believe me if someone was gonna fade down the stretch in that fight it was Fernado Vargas

How can you say Colazzo is overrated ??? he is a young hungry top 147 fighter and a slick south paw with good skills. Its like your trying to do damage control for Shane losing... Believe me Cotto is not gonna beat Mosely! So its not necessary

I think that Shane still has a bit left in him...When you break it down it sounds more rational....
At 154 bMosley was beyond his weight class so his performances were not all too impressive...Everyone knoew that including him that why he dropped back down
His bouts with Vargas though not all that impressive Mosley still KO's a man known for his rugged styles and power punching who walks around at 190-200lbs at times....The natrual size in general was hard to get over...
and of course the weight diffrence slowed him a bit
Molsley is actually even smaller the DLH not only in height but mass size as well...Mosley at 154 was like DLH at 160 just not a good fit....
Mosley lost to Wright twice...Perhaps the best version ever of Wright ever...again at 154....
his two losses to Forrest...The first one I think took Mosley off his game a bit and he did not expect a Forrest of that caliber...The second fight was closer but Mosley lost that as well but again no shame...Forrest at that time was truly a DAMN good fighter.....
I do not see wheree Shane has ever been shown to be shot....Or do Have I ever seen where he has shown he should retire before something bad happens...He has only been down one time in his career against Forrest....
He can still hang with the best and 147 is his ideal weight...He can make it easy and he is not outsized.....out muscled or really does he have a speed disadvantage against anyone but maybe Floyd at 147 as of current.....
Problem is we all know and remember the prime Mosley...the Mosley that had dazzling combos and ring movement...
Alll fighters aree compared to their prime moments and fighters can not remain prime forever but we can not always compare them to their prime moment....and that is what is happening here...Mosley of today is being compared to the Mosley of his absolute prime.....Lets be honest for a second...a Prime Mosley is hard for anyone to be compared to..he is an ATG
