I would say Tyson , round 4 KO
Tyson by ko in 4 ?? your joking right ?? Tyson had problems with taller fighters who could move aka James Tillis aka Tony Tucker Ali would win 12 round decision Ali is much much faster than Tucker and Tillis and twice as good as both.
And 1974 version of Ali wasn't a prime Ali so thats unfair Ali was at his prime in the 60s.
Re: The Greatest Fight Ever
Gotta be ALI by a mile on points or poss late stoppage after out thinking and out smarting his much shorter foe..........
But as ICE COLD says ...its not a fair fight as peak ALI came pre 74 for deffo :badass:
Re: The Greatest Fight Ever
60s Ali would beat him, probably stop him late, but 1974 Ali stayed on the ropes more so would be more likely to get caught with something but I still think he would win.

If big George couldn't KO him then Tyson certainly would not have either!
Ali would have used Tyson for target practice for that left jab of his.
Re: The Greatest Fight Ever
I think prime Tyson would give 1974 Ali a beating, but like Ice said thats not fair because your putting up a guy in his prime against a guy nearing the twilight of his career.
1974 Ali loses to prime Tyson IMO. 60's Ali, the swift moving Ali, wins a 12 (or 15) round clear cut decision IMO.

I agree. Tyson was unstoppable during his peak. he fought world champions who were taller, bigger, faster than him. He all knocked them out.Bervick, Spinks, etc.

Yeh like....
Carl Willams 6' 4"
Frank Bruno 6'3"
Tony Tubbs 6'3" (maybe Tubbs couldn't move much though)
Mitch Green 6'5"
Pinklon Thomas 6'3"
Bonecrusher 6'4"
Tyrell Biggs 6'5"
Re: The Greatest Fight Ever
i can see ali winning a points desision but going down mayb once or twice, in a fight with someone like tyson ali would taunt him and i think a 1986 tyson would have been able to channel his anger more efficently, in a 12 rounder i can see ali winning by something aslong the lines of 114-112 after taking a knockdown or two
Re: The Greatest Fight Ever
Peak Ali wins (which we never even saw) but the 1974 version may win too, he was able to absorb bombs from the best generation of fighter ever and not be stopped so Tyson would not have been able to do it too.
Re: The Greatest Fight Ever
I'm sure prime Tyson could beat Ali (and any other heavyweight for that matter) maybe one out of three times. Those of you who think this would be easy are just kidding themselves. Tyson was pretty much unstopable at his prime, no one beat him, he beat himself. With that said, Ali should win a very tough and hard fought UD, maybe even tasting the canvas along the way.

Carl Willams 6' 4"= Weak Chin good mover but incredibly weak chin
Frank Bruno 6'3"= Robotic and slow
Tony Tubbs 6'3" (maybe Tubbs couldn't move much though) = Only had 2 weeks to train but was never fast on his feet he had quick hands though
Mitch Green 6'5"= Mitch Green was a journeyman and also managed to go the distance
Pinklon Thomas 6'3" He had just got out of rehab and was never that good anyway even Berbick beat him
Bonecrusher 6'4" Only thing Bonecrusher had was power and that he was quite tough other than that he had nothing else.
Tyrell Biggs 6'5" Biggs actually outboxed Tyson in first round with movement then for some unknown reason he stopped sticking and moving and using his jab and then fought flat footed ??? but Biggs had something that no gym can improve and thats weak chin.
None of these guys though are even close to Ali some of them had decent movement and some of them had power and quite alot of them had weak chins and Tubbs couldn't stay in shape and drugs ruined Thomas talent.

And if my Aunty had bollox she'd be my Uncle - you said he always had problems with tall fighters - Did he ever fight anybody smaller than himself?
Plus - he never had trouble with anybody in his prime. You seem to define him having trouble as the other guy winning a couple of rounds. It's heavyweight boxing of course he was gonna lose rounds.

Well any heavyweight is taller than Tyson because he is small for hw ;D
Tony Tucker is only good fighter Tyson fought out of the tall rangy fighters because he had good footwork good chin and decent handspeed but he stopped throwing punches after 4 rounds i actually think it would of been alot closer had he kept up what he was doing i did hear he injured his right hand before the fight im not sure how much i believe that.
James Tillis gave Tyson alot of trouble aswell because of movement.
Re: The Greatest Fight Ever
Tyson was very frustratable and who was the master of frustration? Ali. He would have moved and constantly popped Tyson with that flash jab. Tyson would have gone significant amounts of time without throwing a shot because he would have had no target to throw at. He would have become desperate in the late rounds and begun leaping in, to which Ali would have shown counterpunch mastery with hard right hooks. Tyson would have gone all 12, but it would have been severely lopsided.
Only way Tyson wins is if Ali is off his game for an instant and Mike crowns him with a huge shot. But even then, Ali had great recuperative abilities and might have been able to shake it off.
