Mayweather vs Hopkins : The Boss
Pretty boy Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been on top of the boxing world for some time now. Of course , many analysts despise "PBF" to the point of screaming "Pacquiao" as King.. But for those of us who see clearly , weather we like him or not , it's been difficult to argue over the fact that Floyd has been hands down , the P4P title holder for quite some time , ever since Shane Mosley's back to back losses to Vernon Forest.
After a split decision victory over Oscar Delahoya on may 5th , Mayweather's status became even more remarkable , a spotless record of 38 wins , 0 losses and 24 big wins by KO. Having captured titles in 5 different weight classes from 130lbs to 154lbs , he's not only on top of boxing , he's also one of the top boxers of all time.. We would have to put him in the top 10 fighters ever (even the MHFC) would have to aknowledge this.
On july 21th 2007 , 42 year old Bernard Hopkins beat Ronald Wright who many believed (including myself) to be ONE of today's top fighters. It was'nt a great fight , he did'nt beat him AS convincingly as he did Antonio Tarver , but he got the job done.
Many experts have put Hopkins ahead of Mayweather after the "Winky" fight and even as a Floyd fan , i find it's still very arguable for both fighters , they've both been in the ring with the best and they've both beaten the best.
The real poll question is this , regardless of the outcome on december 8th (Mayweather Vs Hatton) , if both men were to retire today , who do YOU believe is on top of the pound for pound chart?

Mayweather: World titles in 5 different weight classes, and undefeated with almost 40 fights. Still only 30 years old.
Hopkins: 2 and 2 in his last 4 fights. Beat Winky Wright similar to his victories over Trinidad and Delahoya, by fighting guys who are way outside their weight class. Don't forget that
Hopkins is now fighting at the weight class where he started his career. Jermain Taylor has a stronger claim to p4p status, imo.

It does shock me how low Taylor is in some P4P lists despite the fact that he has not loss. It proves that P4P lists are more of a popularity contest than anything else. Taylor has had some forgetable fights but he is still winning against some tough, quality opponents.

I see Hopkins as one of the bests still , i don't think , especially after watching those 2 losses , i dont think it diminishes what Hopkins has accomplished in his career , and i Certainly don't think it puts Jermain Taylor ahead of hopkins ; his two fights vs Hopkins could have easely gone either way , his fight against Wright was a draw which i believed he really lost , and his fights vs Spinks and Ouma??? wow...enough said

I didn't say Hopkins wasn't good.
I said he was 5th best, that's saying a helluva lot about a professional fighter. His loses to Taylor hurt him the same way it would hurt Mayweather if he lost twice to Hatton ;)
Ask yourself this............
If Hatton beats Mayweather twice, should Hatton be ranked higher than Floyd on p4p lists??

He drew with Winky Wright who was actually fighting close to his natural weight. He beat Corey Spinks (who was and still is the #1 fighter at jr. middleweight according to the latest ring magazine rankings: http://www.thering-online.com/ringpages/ratings2.html) and took a breather to take on Kassim Ouma (who is still tons better than most guys Hopkins fought) Now he's fighting Kelly Pavlik. Pavlik is no joke, and had a big coming out party against Miranda.
Give Taylor a break. The guy fights everybody and beats everybody with the exception of one draw (I had Taylor ahead by two rounds over Wright)

Exactly.
P4P is about mythical matches with the size and weight factor leveled.
The mythical nonsense isn't needed when you've already witnessed the reality. Taylor is better than Hopkins.

CC for that. I don't think Taylor gets enough credit, and I think it will be fight of the year with Pavlik and it will bring out the best of both guys, not ot mention will be a rebirth of the Taylor alot of people were fond of a while back. He does fight everybody and doesn't have the defeat on his record yet, and don't thik he plans on letting Pavlik be the first one to give it to him. Pavlik's style is Taylor{lol} made for Jermaine, and if Taylor wins it will be interesting to see where he stands in the rankings. I had Jermaine ahead by 3 rounds also with Wright and am surprised alot thought Winky won. I didn't see the second Taylor/Hop fight, but clearly Taylor won the 1st IMO. Taylor will be around a while.

I haven't been so much impressed on Mayweather's performances. Hopkins, on the other hand, was so impressive against Trinidad and Winky.
At the moment, pound for pound Mayweather is #1 but excitement wise and "x-factor" wise, Hopkins leads over Mayweather.

Just a little note about Taylor in regards to Hopkins...compare their records & current wins over opposition...Taylor has fought more blown up fighters than Hopkins has.
Hopkins first 20 fights were against actual middleweights...Taylor's were not.
Also...check Taylors last two or three fights...not legit middles either.

His fight with Tito was in 2001 but I can still remember it. The fight lingers in my mind. That's the reason why I consider it impressive. I can't remember any of Mayweather's fight. Sorry, but that's the criteria on which I judge a fight to be impressive or not impressive.
