Pantera returning at 168!
While this is not shocking news I love the candor of Pantera. We need more characters like him in the sport.
I'm not sure if he'll be a champion but I'd love it if he made it....
The call came into the Seminole Warriors Boxing offices this week, and there was no mistaking who was on the other end of the line. “I’m back,” said Edison “Pantera” Miranda, who has rebounded from his May loss to Kelly Pavlik and is back in the gym in San Juan, Puerto Rico, preparing for a late-October return at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood. “I’ve been working out for hours every day and I feel great,” said Miranda, who after a successful run at middleweight will now compete in the 168-pound super middleweight division. “At 168 my punches are sharper and harder, my speed is still there, and I feel like I can jump in the ring right now.” It’s a far cry from Miranda’s May loss to Pavlik, which saw him put his health at risk in order to make weight for the bout. The classy Miranda doesn’t want to put a damper on Pavlik’s win though. “I have no excuses,” said Miranda. “Pavlik was the better man that night, but that fight is in the past. I don’t think about what happened yesterday, only about what’s happening today and tomorrow, and in 2008, I will be ready to fight for a title once again. Watch out world, “Pantera” is coming - bigger, badder, and harder than ever.”

I would love to see him against Froch that would be a war!

ha, I was actually thinking that as I typed it. I think Froch would be too accurate but it would still be a great barney...

Both men need a good name on thier record and they are both power punches, not the best defence. So i think it would be a test for the better chin and i think froch would stop him, they acctually should fight each other.
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
pantera relies too much on overpowering his opposition... I don't know how well he'll be able to do that in a higher division I also think he needs some better fundamentals
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
If Edison learned to jab and roll with punches he'd be extremely good. I think Pavlik and Abraham really did a number on his psyche by being able to take his punches and throw back.
Miranda vs Glenn Johnson would be a hell of a fight IMO

It would, but I don't know if Johnson could get down to 168 anymore........
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
But Edison fights regularly at 170 once rehydrated so making 175 wouldn't be too hard for him
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
I think Lacy would be the best opponent for him. Glenn Johnson would school him.
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
I'd watch Lacy-Miranda....that would be very good for either fighter to win.
I'd also like Miranda-Andrade
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
Good news edison's fights are at the least interesting...i give him a sluggers chance against anyone but he does need a lot more tools in his shed before he becomes a real contender.

If Miranda knew how to fight on the inside he'd be a good fighter. But he's an outside fighter like Jermain Taylor. If he had the style of someone like Kassim Ouma he would do loads better
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
Not sure its that great of a move really
Unless he's just been really killing himself to make 160 cause I don't think he's the type of fighter that can have continued success as he moves up in weight, I would think 168 would really be the limit for him because he's just a physically strong fighter, he's not a slick guy, they might be able to tweak some of the things he does and improve somewhat but no trainer's gonna turn him into a really good boxer and if he doesn't have physical advantages over the guy he's fighting he's gonna be in trouble.
Can anybody imagine him beating Calzaghe or Kessler? Or even Lacy?
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
Since when was he having trouble making weight at middle? He seemed happy at 160 before Pavlik broke him down. So what, he's going to move to 168 and then end up getting the brakes beat off him by Pavlik again when Kelly moves up, if he does??? He'll get put through the hot coals at 168; can't wait to see it too. I'd still love to see Taylor knock the wheels off that dude. :jabbing:
Re: Pantera returning at 168!
credit to pavil, hes a tought son of a bitch, can bang hard and take a shot... but damn mianda got whooped bad by him, if he thinks hes gunna beat anyone worth their salt at SMW hes retarded, he would prolly be better skipping smw and going to LHW
Calzaghe, kessler, froch will ruin him... calzaghe and kessler would beat him to a point where he would never come back.
