In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
I'm talking about Glen Johnson Vs Bernard Hopkins..... Hopkins Tko'd Johnson a few years back but Glen deserves another shot and I think his rough and tumble pressure hard nosed style would wear Hopkins down. Bernard his reduced to leading with the right, or his head, holding and hitting rinse and repeat over again.
Glen still pressures as good as anyone in the biz and throws a good volume of punches

Glen's also started stringing a few performances together again recently too....so is probably worth a shot at one of the titles now.
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
I doubt it... Hopkins took him apart 8 years ago and he'd probably do it again to a lesser extent today. Johnson is a damn good pressure fighter but I don't think he's a tougher nut to crack than Winky, nor is he as skilled. I think it would be an ugly fight but I'd see Hopkins doing what he had to and taking the decision.
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
It is also worth noting that many critics thought Winky won the fight..........and of course I did.
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
i don't think so. i have never seen hopkins grinded down ever. johnson couldn't do it.
hopkins would win decision
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
I actually have compared glens stance to winkys. I think glen can pressure better than winky because winky is more a defensive fighter while glen is a complete pressure boxer. no doubt winky has more skills, but styles do make fights. glens pressure may give bhop a much tougher time,so this rematch may be interesting at this age of bhop.
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
I think 10 years has been far more kind to Hopkins. Glen's no pushover but I still think Hopkins takes the rematch, probably by decision.
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
hopkins is a smart fighter and that will win him the fight
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
I don't see it at all. Hopkins is not gonna just lay on the ropes and hold his hands up like Roy. Even Glen admitted it in a Ring magazine article, the difference between Roy and Hopkins is that Hopkins is a far better defensive fighter technically. No way Hopkins puts the kind of absolutely brutal beatdown on Glen this time like he did last time-he just doesn't throw enough to do it- but he would win most of the rounds on clean right hands and defense.

Ya i noticed in the Winky fight... I struggle to remember a single jab being thrown by Bernard. Was that just tactics or what ???
Still, he can do the do on the inside and he is still pretty saavy when he wants to be. The Calibre of Hopkins would be evident against Johnson who, lets face it, has faced some pretty stale opposition lately.
Id pick Hopkins over Jonhson by way of UD.
Re: In A Rematch He'd Grind Him Down
I agree with JT here Glen Johnson, has the goods to put Hopkins to sleep.
c'mon Rematch.

You know I love you & all that shit...but that's like sayin' Lacy would whoop Calzaghe in a rematch.
Glen can be as ruff as he wants...but nobody's ruffer or more skilled inside than Hopkins. Glen comes in too much now & refuses to utilize the one weapon that could nullify Hopkins's tactics: A JAB.
Then again...Winky never got his off against Hopkins...so there aint much of a thought that Johnson would either.
Johnson's a work horse & he's got heart...but just because he plowed through an old Jones, a lazy Tarver, stopped an overdone Griffin, & went toe to toe with Woods (& let's just forget Moore) doesn't mean that he'll ever get through the cagey wit of Hopkins.
Honestly...I just don't know who can.

no way killer would johnson ko hopkins. you know better :)
Re: In A Rematch He\'d Grind Him Down
Johnson has a better chance beating Calzaghe or Kessler than he does beating Hopkins.

Agreed...& I say that aint a chance in hell concerning Cal or Kess...no matter what the outcome is of Calzaghe vs Kessler.
