Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
What is the biggest let down youve had when watching a boxing match or waiting for one to happen? Mine would be when castillo couldnt make the weight against corrales for the rubber match. That sucked, i was gonna order that fight last minute and then that happened. I wanted to see that fight but castillo fucked it with his weight. Another would be watching pedan fighting barerra. Pedan had power and heaps of speed to put up a fight and he threw shit all. I respect pedan as a fighter and think hes a great bloke but man he blew his shot. Whats yours?
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
Tyson vs. Spinks - as I recall, it was the 1st PPV fight I ever bought @ home & I thought I paid all that for that "fight"?
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
When Wladimir Klitschko got knocked out by Brewster. This was right after his knockout loss to Sanders, so it made his future look bleak.
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
Toney's "run" at a Heavyweight Title and not getting the title of just being a heavyweight I may add. :'(
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
castillo v corales three has to be at the top,i was buzzing for ages for that to happen too...
Hopkins vs taylor I was a massive let down to me too...i hadn't seen taylor prior to that fight but they built him up over here to be this big hitting hungry fighter who was a massive threat, ok he won 'coz imo hopkins let him - i was really syked for that fight, but both done fuck all and was gutted...
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
One of my biggest let downs would be watching Tyson bottle it in the rematch with Holyfield.
Also the PPV for Lennox-Holyfield went tits up for everyone with Cable in my area. I remember being unbelievably pissed off...and pissed.
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
Naz barely even turning up against Barrera at the time disappointed me, also Corrales v Castillo III.
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
The biggest let downs for me were Pacquiao vs Solis and De La Hoya vs Mayweather.
Pacquiao vs Solis was me and my best friend's first chance to expose our girlfriends to the typhoon that is Manny Pacquiao. We kept building it up on how exciting his fights are and the fight itself was very akward and atypical on what you usually see. The crowd we had in the house didn't get into the fight until the last two rounds.
The worst of all was De La Hoya vs Mayweather. The fight was billed "The fight to save boxing." Instead, we got Mayweather running and De La Hoya coming after him, not punching, just walking towards him. We probably had the biggest turn out for a fight at my friend's house that night and no one left satisfied (aside from the booze).
It's topics like this that should make us glad we are about to see Barrera/Pacquiao II, Taylor/Pavlik, Juarez/Marquez, Kessler/Calzaghe, Cotto/Mosley, Hatton/Mayweather (Hatton will make this a better fight than De La Hoya did), Vargas/Mayorga, Jones Jr./Trinidad.
These are fights that will save boxing from "the fight to (supposedly) save boxing." THANK GOD! NOW WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING TO BE EXCITED FOR!!!
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
I hadn't actually told people this at the time, but after paying for Setanta, I stayed up till 4am to watch Hatton-Castillo. I was excited because it had the potential to be an amazing fight.
Just before the fight was due to start, Setanta froze. I tried to fix it and it just kept flashing still images as it was freezing. I saw one image of Castillo on one knee, then it jumped to an image of Hatton celebrating. So not only did I stay up so late for no fucking reason, I had the outcome of the fight ruined for me and my money wasted. I got it fixed in time for the re-run the next day, but man I swear I was so fucked off. The guy on the other end of the phone got a right fucking earful off me. I imagine they use my call for training and quality purposes of a truly fucked off customer.
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
i wanted sam peter to beat wk he knock him down 3 times but he couldn't capitalize

Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
Wow...like it was yesterday, back in the early eighties Brits Pat Cowdell took on Ghanain Azumah Nelson at Birmingham NEC..
I MADE THE 100 ODD MILE TRIP TO SEE HIM GET KNOCKED COLD IN THE FIRST.....still got to see Tim Witherspoon on the same bill lol.... :badass:

de la hoya v mayweather? what exactly where you expecting from that? mayweather to go toe-to-toe with him? shit that would be career suicide... that fight turned out pretty much exactly the way sane people thought it would, both doing what they done best to try and win... mayweather was spot on and thought it was a very good fight...
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
audley harrison was one for me. skill wise he could be a good heavyweight but he does stupid things in the ring and have cost him 3 fights. if he comes back hopefully he comes back with his mind right.
lacy really let me down against calzaghe. i really wanted to see a knockout and thought lacy was gonna ko calzaghe bad. how wrong was i.
hopkins losing to taylor the second time got me disappointed because you think hopkins would realise from the first fight that being agressive and attacking taylor was effective. in the second fight i thought he would do that but he didn't and did the exact same thing from the first fight.
Re: Biggest let down youve had in boxing?
Winky - Taylor was pretty disappointing for me, I'm a huge Winky fan (though even I couldn't manage to force myself to watch all of Hopkins - Wright) and I was so sure he won that fight, as the scores were read out my jaw just dropped.
Chico Corrales was one of my favorite fighters as well, and when he passed away I couldn't believe it. My mom passed away suddenly about a week afterwards (I remember telling her about Chico), so looking back on it that is probably the worst boxing moment for me, because I can't think about Corrales without thinking about my mom. After Diego died all I could think about was his poor family.
Damn, didn't mean to get all serious there...
