90s vs 2000s WW Round 1 Pernell Whitaker vs Cory Spinks
In 1994 Whitaker was the WBC Welterweight champion and Universally recognized Pound for Pound #1 fighter in the world. He had titles in three different weight classes with a reccord of 33-1-1 (16KOs). Most would agree that Whitaker's best was in the lower weight classes, but none would deny his mastery of the sweet science of boxing even at this weight.
In 2003 Cory Spinks captured the Undisputed Welterweight title by outpointing the always dangerous Ricardo Mayorga. He defended his title twice and had a reccord of 34-2 (11KOs)

Whitaker wins this easily.

Whitaker wins. Spinks' fights give me a good nights sleep.

Whitaker wins a decision in a boring fight.

I really think you are disregarding Spinks, he just went up to 160 and made the champ look like a chump. Whitaker was great, but not unbeatable. I think he'll win, but not easily and it isnt out of the question that he 'could' lose either

I agree this would be a very close fight. You have to take into account that this is not Whitaker's best weight (though he did really good as a 147lber) and this might be Spinks best weight.
No I don't think welterweight Whitaker, even the best version of a welterweight whitaker is unbeatable. There are others in this tournament who I think are. ;D
