Re: Whats Next For Witter?
I agree with Torres & Rees but I'd have Malignaggi ahead of Urango.

I dunno, both are highly skilled!
Re: Whats Next For Witter?
Would love to see Torres vs. Witter.
I know a lot of people dislike Witter but hes stepping up and facing tougher opponents hes hungry and he wants to fight.
Torres is on a streak here so I think it would make for a interesting fight.
Re: Whats Next For Witter?
Why did that get posted again ???

You're right. It's a purists fight, but Witter has a reputation based on his Judah fight so he has to avoid any boxing matches - as sad as that sounds :(
He really needs more fights like the Harris result. Hatton can afford the odd boring fight as his rep is that of Mr Excitement. Witters US rep is the opposite so he can only be involved in high action fights or maybe dominant knockouts....

I think Torres and Holt are going to have a rematch

What for?
Torres beat him, Torres didn't cheat.
The only thing I see there is a hostile crowd that was getting out of hand.
The same way there was a hostile crowd on the night of Chavez-Haugen, Paez-Groove I, Benvenutti-Monzon and even more recent Valero-Mosquera there was a hostile crowd there.
Loud chants, flying objects there was an uncontrolled atmosphere.
Did that cause him to loose the fight? Possibly.
Is that cheating? No.
Monzon and Valero both fought in their opponents turf/home and got past the chants/roars, objects and crowd.
Holt lost and that's that, he needs to move on and so does Torres he needs to look for his next opponent.
I think Torres vs. Witter should be it BUT come on we know it ain't happening, I think Torres - Urango would make for an interesting fight also.

Why? Because controversy creates cash, especially in the modern day. A rematch would sell a lot in the states and they'd probably put it on PPV

Well said Mick. Sounds like I'm not the only one who believes Torres is very underrated. Torres deserves a chance at Witter more than Paulie. Torres has defended his belt twice to Paulie's 0. I'd also fancy Torres style to beat Witter. I think Witter would be shocked by the power.

I think that Witter - Malignaggi is a terrible fight for both camps. It would kill both their careers. Witter looks best when he's counter punching and Magic Man likes to peck his way to a UD. They're both decent boxers but todays fight game calls for more action.
Here's my top three picks for Juniors next bout (which should ideally be this year to build on the momentum)
1 - Ricardo Torres 32 (28) - 1.
Torres' only loss was a donnybrook against Cotto two years ago, in which he became the first man to drop Miguel before succumbing to a 7th round KO. Since then he's outpointed Arnaoutis & Mora (a Witter KO victim) and then had last weeks' controversial KO win against Holt. Let them unify in Miami where's there's plenty of Colombians & Brits to bolster the live gate. Witter has as good a chance as any of defeating Torres and I think his sharp counter punching could KO the South American within 5 rounds.
2 - Gavin Rees 27 (13) - 0.
I have to admit, I didn't give Rees a chance against M'baye. His previous 26 opponents had a combined record of 316-731-44 for a 67% losing percentage. In fact his only fight of 2007 was against Billy Smith who had lost 84% of his previous bouts! BUT, he rose to the occasion and beat a decent champ. This could be a decent fight but I'm still not convinced by Rees and think he would be out jabbed in a so-so bout by an uninspired Witter. Saying that, we don't know how good Rees is until he loses...
3 - Juan Urango 18 (14) - 1.
OK, so this one is a harder sell but we all saw Ricky Hatton holding on and being out-manned by (or fighting smart against) Urango in the later rounds. If Witter can do a number on Iron Twin then he has extra leverage for that elusive Hitman fight. I doubt if anyone can stop Urango at 140 but Junior loves come forward guys. It would be a great gauge for the Bradford boxer and a massive result if he won by KO or at least downed the stocky brawler a couple of times.
I know I rate Witter higher than most of here, but I've always been a fan of the Ingle Way. His biggest problem is the "hit & not be hit" style but if he fights good opponents often enough people will overlook that. Junior only has a couple of years left in the game. He needs to fight every 3 or 4 months.
A decent champion? :lolhaha: Souleymane M'Baye had no business being a world champion. I actually saw the Rees win a mile away and actually made a point of saying it on the UK forum. Fairplay to Gav for the win, but M'Baye is not world class opposition, so he needs to start mixing it with the big boys at 140 before getting unification. He should fight someone like Lovemore N'Dou to ease him into it.
