Remember when HW World Title Fights actually meant something???
I was watchin a few old Hw Title fights recently and it hit me how little that title means now compared to what it used to. Being HW champ used to mean you were the 'Baddest Man on the Planet' or 'The Greatest', now it probably just means u have the best management. I cannot remember a meaningful title fight since Holyfield fought Lewis! What has happened and how can being World HW champ actually mean something again?
Do we need a new great American HW?
Do we need a unification?
Do we need just the one belt?
Any ideas?

Id say Vitali vs Lewis was the last signifigant HW fight.. And Klitschko could have likely held the prestige that champ's of old did if he had the desire, imo... It certainly cant be blamed solely on management or promotional crap these days, although that is a big problem with establishing a premier HW... The lack of good fighters in the division is the biggest problem by far. Klitschko and Peter have to fight again one way or another, imo.. There just isn't anyone else that good at the moment.

Why isnt there anyone good tho? There seems to be a lot of guys with some talent out there who just dont hae the heart and dessire of past champs. Is it cos guys can make a decent living of boxing by capturing an alphabet title and defending it a few times against bums, they dont have to pushe themselves to fight the best?

As in all divisions we need only 1 champ and one belt then at least even if the compertition is weak , the champ of the world would be just that - CHAMPION
Re: Remember when HW World Title Fights actually meant something???
What we need are more quality fights in the division....More quality fighters..not just pretty good fighters but GOOD fighters....Look at the roster of champs....
Wlad...His KO power is great and defense improving but still he lacks good opp so his wins are expected not hoped for...a loss just gets major criticizim due to fact almost everyone else is inferior
Oleg....no need to comment..
Sultan.....Not really that good to be honest...right place right time...
Ruslan.....about the same boat as Sultan.....
In the 90's we had bowe, Lewis, Holyfield, Mercer, Bruno, Tyson, Botha, ect...not all great but each oine gave a hell of an exciting fight even while losing

Agreed, It is just a phase that will pass and it happens in all eras remember pre Tyson in the 1980's.
