Why did he even have to say that!? ;D
Re: OSCAR BUYS RING MAGIZINE
The only impartial ranking and well respected magazine no longer exists. :(
Now there's no belt in boxing that will always be held by the best fighter. Sad day.
Re: OSCAR BUYS RING MAGIZINE
Golden Boy Promotions has solid integrity. nothing to fear on this acquisition IMO.

I hope not, but at some point this will probably be the true.
Re: OSCAR BUYS RING MAGIZINE
I am such a skeptic, this to me is very questionable....keep a close eye on new hirings and rankings. Its like the Yankees buying all the baseball magazines. If it was one publication, maybe, but he's bought 3 of the biggest boxing mags...I dont think I will be subscribing any time soon. What writer is gonna man up and dis or speak freely on their bosses fighters...yeah whatever there are clauses against tampering, and theres no way around that(sure buddy)....fact is De La Hoya is signing the checks.

Golden Boy Enterprises’ Subsidiary, Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC, Acquires
The Ring Magazine, KO, World Boxing and Pro Wrestling Illustrated
LOS ANGELES (September 12, 2007) Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC, is extremely pleased to announce the acquisition of the following titles from Kappa Publishing Group, Inc.: The Ring magazine, KO, World Boxing and Pro Wrestling Illustrated, which are the leading periodicals in the boxing and wrestling industry. Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC, is an autonomous member of Golden Boy Enterprises family of companies.
The Ring was founded in 1922 and is known in the industry as “The Bible of Boxing.” It pioneered the concept of boxing rankings and has been awarding the prestigious Ring championship belt to genuine world champions since then-heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey was the first recipient. Pro Wrestling Illustrated was launched in 1979 by Stanley Weston and is acknowledged as the number one independently published pro wrestling magazine in the world.
“We have a very skilled and capable team at The Ring, headed by Publisher Stu Saks and Editor-in-Chief Nigel Collins, and I have all the confidence that these magazines will not only continue to prosper, but in fact grow globally,” said Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Enterprises. “These magazines will be held in an editorial trust where they will be operating totally independent of any influence from me or others from the Golden Boy Companies as it relates to editorial direction or content.”
“This is the kind of asset you never really own, but rather safeguard for the next generation,” said Golden Boy Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer. “We are proud and honored to be part of this next generation and are mindful of the responsibility trusted upon us.”
“The Ring and Pro Wrestling Illustrated brands are, in our opinion, two of the strongest and most recognized brands in their respective fields,” said Schaefer. “We are looking forward to being part of the next chapter of these great titles and are very respectful of the deep history of each.”
“Oscar and I would like to thank Nick Karabots and Despina McNulty of Kappa Publishing for giving us this opportunity as well as all fight fans for all they have done for these great magazines during their ownership,” said Schaefer.
De La Hoya continued, “As a young kid growing up I was always waiting with anticipation to get the new issue of The Ring. To be here now and actually own the title is truly a dream come true. We encourage fight fans, fighters, and promoters to rally together and continue in the impressive resurgence our beloved sport of boxing has experienced this year.”

But if Hatton and his dad would of bought it would be different, right? Why all the distrust in Oscar? The man has always been a great business man. I can't see him ruining the Ring reputation.
Re: OSCAR BUYS RING MAGIZINE
Holy Sh@t!! This is a huge thing for boxing and I dont mean good or bad. Oscar pretty much ownes a big chunk of the sport. Ring magazine has been the most consistant thing in boxing for a long time. That is crazy! He pretty much controls boxing.
Re: OSCAR BUYS RING MAGIZINE
Like him or not, Oscar is a very astute businessman and marketing genius.
He has kept his career going a lot longer than it should have despite losing every super fight he has ever been in. As owner of The Ring i doubt there will be any manipulation of rankings or preferred articles.
Re: OSCAR BUYS RING MAGIZINE
i think it can only be agood thing. odh is a role model for the sport imo, he has the business skills to go with it.....i reckon this is just the beginning of his complete dominance of the global rights of boxing.
good riddance don king........dont let the door hit you on your way out!

Golden Boy Enterprises subsidiary Sports and Entertainment Publications, LLC, a holding company whose principal shareholder is Golden Boy Promotions, has bought Ring Magazine from the Kappa Publishing Group. Also acquired were KO, World Boxing and Pro Wrestling Illustrated. No dollar amount was disclosed. The magazine's rankings are recognized as "official" by some factions in the U.S. media, particularly ESPN. While some may see a conflict of interest in a boxing promoter being paymaster of what is essentially a magazine/rankings organization that awards world titles and belts, De La Hoya says that is not the case. "These magazines will be held in an editorial trust where they will be operating totally independent of any influence from me or others from the Golden Boy Companies as it relates to editorial direction or content," promises the Golden Boy
Whew, that's some business strategy in there. Actually, the acquisition by DLH of The Ring is not good for the integrity of The Ring. As an auditor, I know how CEO of corporations violate internal control, given the opportunity and the chance.
Oscar's promise not to manipulate the Ring's rankings is equivocal to the devil promising good things to Adam and Eve.
