Happy Birthday Stanley Ketchel
121 years old today ;D
A True Pioneer Hero.
To have a record of 54 (49) - 4 - 5 in those days was nothing short of incredible, especially when you consider that, of his four losses, two were points decisions when he was 15 & 16 years old, the 3rd was when he was punched illegally by Billy papke (whom he beat 3-1 in their series of bouts) and the last was by the great Jack Johnson - all time heavyweight great. And he had just turned 24 when he was murdered :o

If I could pick one guy to have a movie made about, it's Stanley Ketchel. He is one of the most fascinating sports figures of all time in my opinion.
Excellent book out called The Killings of Stanley Ketchel. Not all true to fact but a very good book nonetheless. Would love to see a movie.

It would be incredible today!
Happy birthday to him. Never seen much footage of the guy, but I give much respect to all the old timers who shaped and developed boxing in the trenches and paved the way for future greats.
Such a shame he was cut down probably before he even hit his prime. Its like Salvador Sanchez, you just gotta wonder what the guy was meant to accomplish had he not been the victim of unfortunate circumstance.

Not to mention that he's reppin' for all us born in '86.

Have it right here, James Carlos Blake is the author. I looked him up online and found a couple reviews on the book, this one being the one I like the best.

It's a good book, would fully recommend it both as a good book and a fascinating insight into Ketchel.

Stanley Ketchell - one of the roughest, toughest, most rambunctious fighters to ever step into a ring. The man knew no fear, punched hard enough as a small middleweight to dump the great Jack Johnson on his arse.
Lived life to the max ......... happy birthday champ.
