Should Emanuel Stewart still be JT's trainer?
I'm starting to wonder myself. I said when pat burns was still training JT that they should get manny, but maybe I was wrong because I cant tell that JT has gotten any better since Manny joined the team, he may in fact have gotten a little worse. And it seems to me that Manny's advice to JT in the 7th to go out and trade shots with pavlik instead of boxing him was a critical error in judgement on Mannys part. The only reason I could think of that manny would or should have told him that is if manny knew JT was spent and one way or the other the 7th would be his last round, either he ko'ed pavlik or he was getting ko'ed by pavlik, maybe manny understood this entering the 7th before anyone else did, if so I guess he was giving JT the only advice he could which is either knock him out or get knocked out.

No he thought Pavlik was spent, if he thought taylor was, hed have realised that he wouldnt have the energy to put a spurt on.
Taylor just isnt that good, how many other champs have there evry defence descision questioned ? and from smaller fighters

Bernard Hopkins? He won lots of close fights that maybe not by the judges views but by many fans views could have gone to the other guy.

cc bro, I dont understand the denial here. It seems Jermains fans give more excuses than Jermain did. I like Jermain but he is a good fighter not a great figter.

Manny is a good trainer
JT has no gas tank period
so no matter how good Manny is " you can't polish a turd guys !!!"

NO. manny steward is a pro counter punching coach. JT was doing good when he was initiating the fight. but when he waits to counter that is when pavlik caught him. he has the faster hands, why not be the aggressor?

Thank you for some descent insight, most of these guys do nothing but make a big joke of everything when they post, makes you wonder if they are here for the boxing community or to just make wise cracks all the time. I agree, jermaine is faster and will always land the punch faster than pavlik will, he should go right after pav just like he did in the second round. I think JT could knock alot of boxer out early in the fights if the trainers would just let him go after the guys. It seems they try to hold him back way too much.

My opinion on this triner/fighter relationship is limited to the fact that i have only ever witnessed them on television/via internet and for one have never seen their chemistry first hand and secondly my view may be tainted by the medias depiction of them.
However from what i have witnessed of Jt and Manny together, i just don't think they click. Manny asked JT to leave the Kronk gym some time ago and train privately, JT said no. I cannot understand how any fighter no less a world champion would deny himself the opportunity of training in the best possible conditions.
Furthermore, JT infamously ignored Mannys pleadings in the corner in both the Ouma and Spinks fights. These facts alongside the fact that Steward is predicting Andy Lee to be middleweight champ by the end of 2008 did not bode well for taylor before pavlik. After Pavlik i feel these issues within the camp will be further amplified.
In my personal opinion there needds to be a bond between trainer and fighter. I myself have fought under two trainers, the first i respected but i disliked. i fought in mediocrity under his tutelage.
My current trainer is a man whoose time i graetly appreciate and whom i genuinely like outside of boxing and i find myself learning each day im in his presence and im improving dramatically.
JT and Emmanuel Steward just don't click.

Taylor's problem is Taylor. If he could just calm down--he seems so nervous. He did fine when he boxed, covered up from Pavlik's right all right and fought off the ropes. It seemed in those early rounds that he had absorbed everything that Steward had been teaching him. Taylor really was better than he had been in his last few fights. But Pavlik caught him just standing there. Taylor had nothing left and got creamed.

Think of all Stewards famed subordinates:
I'm gonna take Herans and McClellan as my two outstanding examples. These guys wanted KO's and they were willing to work, take punches and walk thru hell in their attempts at glory.
Taylor altho still a good boxer in my book, is of a different mindframe, more of a pacifist i guess. I think jim is right.

The only 2 fights i can think of in Hopkins career that were close was first Hopkins vs Mercado where Hopkins was dropped twice and Hopkins vs Wright i wouldn't call that *lots*.

Yes JT needs Manny badly, he has 1 of the best trainers around and he got creamed imagine what would happen to him if he gets some trainer of lesser caliber.
