To all those that claim boxing is dead(stats)
I got this from another forum,could not find a link but will do so asap. If boxing is dying,then someone forgot to tell all these people that purchased these PPV. Thi has been a VINTAGE year for boxing,with 3 mega fights to come plus 2 excellent less known ones,awesome selling stats AND SOOOO MANY FOTY contenders. I love MMA but all this talk of it overtaking boxing is premature:
In 2006, the UFC broke the all time records with PPV BUYS and Revenue. That year they had 10 events which generated 5.2 million ppv buys and 220 million in total revenue.
This year HBO boxing has answered the bell. Only holding 5 events, they generated 3.6 million ppv buys and 193 million in ppv revenue. They have two events left (Cotto/Mosely, Hatton/Mayweather) and it is expected to destroy the records set by the UFC.
To put it in perspective, UFC's first 5 PPV EVENTS in 2007 equaled Delahoya/Mayweeather in terms of PPV Buys.
Note - hatton/Mayweather has already beaten UFC's all time record gate set by lidell/ortiz 2

So if you put on competitive matches between the worlds best boxers you get a lot of people watching?

I still doubt they will match the UFC's total PPV figures for 07 either though. With only 3.6 million buys so far and only two events left they'd really need to go some to catch up.
I doubt that Hatton Mayweather and Cotto Mosely will combine to make much more than a million PPVs' and with two UFC cards left I'd expect the totals to be around 5/5.5 million for the UFC and 4.5/5 million for HBO.
Cotto Mosely won't get more than 500,000 or so buys and Hatton Mayweather maybe another 800,000?

I think Mayweathe Hatton will do more than that although you could be right. UFC still had alot more events. Next year,Pavlik,Hatton,Oscar,Cotto,Manny are all going to be even bigger draws!

Does anyone know how much the UFC PPVs are? Were those fights involving Liddell-Jardine and Silva-Frankiln PPV? Cause their purses were minute compared to top boxers weren't they?

Someone in UFC is making big bucks, but it is not the fighters. They usually get 5 figure purse. Some will get a 6 figure.
I also notice a growing trend online of people getting sick of UFC. I used to watch it and cannot bring myself to do it any more. There seems to be no consistency in the sport. You can take one champion, who gets upset by a nobody, then they will build up that fighter, who then loses to a complete bum with a 2-14 record etc.
Also the fact that they look like girls when they throw punches makes my appreciate Boxing so much more.

Concerning the qustion about how much the UFC PPV's are, I've always seen them to be $39.95 - pretty close in price to the boxing cards.
And yes, I think Dana is making big bucks. It's funny, people say some boxing promoters are crooks but Dana & his guys are really making a lot.

Been looking for something like that for a while now.
I don't buy MMA PPVs but I do watch some of their replays when their on Spike or when that EliteXC replays their events.
But when I read people say MMA is gonna take over Boxing I laugh.
Something thats already been mentioned here is salaries compare what the Superstar of MMA makes vs. what ODLH makes or PBF or Wladdy makes..
Someone is making money on MMA but it ain't the fighters and until they can fix that they wont come near boxing as a sport.

CC back my friend. I agree the fighters at the lower end don't make as much but the bigger name fighters do. Fedor Emilianenko,the best HW in the world in MMA,signed a contract in the last week for a figure roughly in the region of $2million per fight for 6 fights plus a $1.5million bonus for signing with them!? That's alot of money and I'm not sure if that includes some of the PPV money etc BUT it still pales in comparinson to Oscar/Floyd etc. Shit,how much did Oscar make for the Floyd fight? $15million plus?!
