Looks like WBO mini-flyweight champion Ivan Calderon could face Manuel "Chango" Vargas in his first 108lb title defense on Top Rank's December 1 "Latin Fury" card in Albuquerque, New Mexico. PR Best Boxing and Top Rank are still hoping to stage a unification fight between Calderon and IBF champion Ulises "Archie" Solis" or WBA champion Juan Carlos Revecco. Vargas has record of 24-2 with 10 KOs and holds outstanding wins over Gilberto Keb Bass, Humberto Pool and Juan Esquer. The pay-per-view card will also feature Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Jorge "Maromerito" Paez and Henry Bruseles.

Althought I would rather see a unification bout between Calderon and Solis or Revecco...this is good enough.

For those that aren't familiar with Calderon...do your research...you will not be disappointed.

When I first saw the title of the thread, I thought it was either a joke thread or Fernando wanted desperately to go out on a win. lol.

Should be a good fight although I'm hoping a unification with Solis can be worked out before this fight takes place.

Calderon I know, but pretty much the only guy I know under 130. So who the heck is Vargas?

I think Solis beats Calderon

On paper Calderon should dance circles around Vargas without much problem.
But Vargas is said to be skilled, moves well and uses the entire ring very similar to Calderon.

Vargas holds a very early win over WBC Light Flyweight kingpin Edgar Sosa.

I too would rather see Solis vs. Calderon but something tells me it ain't happening. :(

Of course, a fight with Solis is the dream fight but this is good enough for now. It's nice to see that he wants to continue fighting at 108lbs instead of moving back down to straweight. I expect Calderobn will win this pretty easily. He's the best little man since Ricardo lopez in my opinion.

Give him a chance he's only had one fight at his new weight and that was against the top gun in the division.

He's entitled to find his feet before he goes for a mega unification shodown.

As for it not happening, of course it will! There's not enough money for the little guys in these divisions apart from taking the big high profile fights.

There's more than enough mega fights coming up between now and Christmas lets save at least a couple for first half of next year
