Respect for Shane

I hear all the applause for Cotto...and he deserves it. He showed he is a great young champion who is evolving as a fighter. BUT...please don't forget...that he fought a 36 year old Mosley. I don't say that to tarnish Cotto's win...i say that to remind people what a warrior and great athlete Shane is. Could/should Shane have fought a more tactical fight? Yes. Has he lost some of his quickness and ability to avoid punches? Yes. But he, along with Cotto, promised the fans a war and he delivered. Unlike a fighter like Floyd...who promises he will "die in the ring"...Shane actually backed up his words. He showed that even at his age...he wasn't going to wilt. He truly, like Cotto, is the embodiment of class and heart.

but that's exactly what i was saying before the fight. Cotto was going to win this fight because he was fighting an older Shane. Definitely not the same Mosely that fought years ago. Yeah it was going to be a good fight. and it was a close fight so respect to both fighters for a hell of a fight but it really wasn't that hard to understand the point.

If anyone deserves respect, that would be Joe Calzaghe.
Joe took on a younger and stronger fighter and Joe STOMPED A MUD HOLE IN Kessler's @ss ;D

A fight I would love to see, because styles make fights is....
Shane Mosley vs Zab Judah <---- This fight would be very entertaining ;)
I would also like to see Paulie Malignaggi cash in that wolf ticket where he says he want's to move up in weight to face Miguel Cotto. :lickish: Watching Pualie get his face kicked in by a mule was joy, joy and more joy. ;D A rematch would be the lick. I don't believe Paulie will move up. He would have to be insane to fight Cotto again in a weight class where Miguel Cotto OWNS.

It's strange I didn't see you mention as much about Shane's age before the fight. In fact,were you not adamant that Cotto would lose?

I actually stated that Shane would lose if he grew old in this fight...and while he certainly didn't fight like an old fighter...it's clear he has lost some speed and reflexes. I don't say that to take away from Cotto's performance or improvement as a fighter. I felt Shane would win...primarily because i thought he would mix it up more and not brawl from beginning to end. I was wrong. I give Cotto his props. That being said...Shane promised a war and he delivered...he came forward for the entire fight...and for a fighter his age...i respect that he fought like that (though it might not have been the wisest strategy) and did not wilt against the younger fighter. Again, Cotto deserves respect...but i'm equally impressed with Shane's heart and performance.

I give a lot of respect to Shane. The fight was close and he delivered a spectacular permformance. I hope he keeps fighting. I think he has a few great fights left in him.
