Emanuel Steward said something interesting about speed in Mosley-Cotto
He said that he felt in terms of putting both power and speed together that Cotto was faster than Mosley because Mosley flicks a lot of his punches. I think this is why a lot of people underestimate Floyd's speed as well because they don't realize how stiff he makes his punches. He looks incredibly fast, and he is throwing real, properly thrown punches. Its not that Floyd hits super hard, but because he follows through people come to respect his power when they are in the ring with him. There are only a few other boxers who I've seen throw like he does, and most of them are relatively modern fighters(like WHitaker), and I think it makes their speed more than it may appear. While guys like Oscar and Mosley have very fast hands, but their punches don't have that same body follow through.

I thought Mosley lacked alot of head movement in this fight to. He just couldn't get out of the way of that jab.

Im 50/50 with this point.
Your so right about Floyd but im not sure Pernell threw with such an emmaculate technique (relatively speeking).
Also, Oscar for me always tried to put a lot of musturd on his shots. Mosley flaps his jab loads but was always known to load up on single shots.

the way oscar throws is like looking at an amateur fighter who wants to knock every opponent out. i thought he should have evolved into something more elite. he got mayweather on the ropes yet he threw looping punches instead of straight ones.
Re: Emanuel Steward said something interesting about speed in Mosley-Cotto
He tried a lot of straight punches with Mayweather on the ropes as well, but what I am talking about is watch Mayweather throw a combination, each punch is deliberately thrown, when you watch guys like Mosley, Roy Jones jr., Leonard, Robinson, and Tyson they throw fast hard combinations, but they kind of shoe shine their punches, but because of their natural power, it still hurts. Whitaker was technically emaculate in anything except his footwork, and his punches. He threw stiff accurate, straight punches.
