I am very confused about this bout: Schmeling Sharkey 1
I was watching this last night and the fight was going very well for Sharkey. He was measuring Max and tagging him. He was really outboxing Schmeling. :jabbing:
In the fourth there was a low blow and the fight was stopped and Jack was DQ'd.
Was this common practice? ???
4 rounds of great boxing was erased by a blatently unintentional low blow.
It was clear it was not ment as Jack was winning the fight.

It's the ref's call anytime a low blow lands it is up to the ref. to determine whether it was intentional or accidental. You also gotta keep in mind that there was no deduction of points back then. Also if Max told the ref. he can't continue the ref. again would determine to rule it a ND or NC or DQ in which he went with DQ assuming Max couldn't continue.
