I dont know if Jess Willard was actually an underdog. Prior to the fight, Johnson had spent 2 years in France getting drunk every day, and was in horrible shape. According to the book "Unforgivable Blackness" all the insiders pretty much knew that Johnson would lose to the next half way decent fighter he fought. Leading up to the match, there instead of picking an opponent, they believed they were picking the next heavyweight champion.Quote:

Jimmy Ellis scored some good upsets against Oscar Bonavena, Leotis Martin, and Jerry Quarry. He beat Patterson too, though I dont know if he was a underdog in that fight cause Floyd was past it by then.
