EXCLUSIVE!!!!!!The reason Clay got knocked down by Cooper!!!

When in Ireland a few weeks ago I got talking to an old man called Colm O'Donnell who has been involved in boxing in Ireland for years.

He boxed as a pro including an exhibition against Welsh legend Howard Winston.He was also involved in training Tyson's last opponent Kevin McBride for a while.Who by the way he said was never very good.

But the story that I really like was the one about none other that Cassius Clay.

He was at ringside for his fight with Cooper and the reason Clay got knocked down was that he spent the whole fight looking at film star Doris Day who was also at ringside.I think the fact that Cooper could hit like a mule might have had somthing to do with it as well.

Dont know how genuine the story is but I thought I would share it with the Saddo Crew.

Never met Colm myself but he's one of the forgotten heroes of the sport here...

Interesting fact also...
Pj O'hAlloran an ex Irish International amateur was claimed to have boxed rings around McBride on numerous occasions and given him a going over.

How bout when i tell you PJ was a flyweight :-X

Colm's a great bloke.Full of old storys about boxing.

Theres lots of old guys that are great like that.
Michael "Chick" Gillan is perhaps the most famous of all the old time guys, he used to train me. verry old school!

LOL CC#137 Porky for the story info...anything is possible with Ali especially as a kid before all the Muslem white devil stuff started with him for that brief time in his life....

I would possibly contribute it to a few things...Ali being arrogant,,,,Henry hitting with a heck of a wallop and Doris at ringside ;)...at the time that was a big fight especially for young Clay....so I would throw in a bit of nerves as well

I wouldn't doubt it McBride is a SLOB!!!

And you no what SLOB stands for Slothful Lazy Obese Bastard.

He was also lucky he didn't get DQ aswell.

I was at that fight aswell & it was diana dors not doris day the reason clay got knocked down was simple he got f$cking careless

That was proboly who he said.Looking at birds ringside is VERY careless.

We were both a bit drunk at the time.

As i said earlier Ali should have lost this fight by DQ smelling salts wern't allowed in UK at that time i believe.

nor was ripping a glove, how history would have changed Cooper would have won & maybe pushed into a fight with Liston had the bejesus knocked out of him & not be walking around fit & well today. I think over all he will be happy with his moment of glory
