It seems like people can't differentiate between a true racist act and a stupid comment.
Real racism involves the subjection of one group of people by another, treatment of brutality, of slavery, of intimidation and hostility. It involves the taking away the rights of one race by another.
Hopkins remark was a comment plain and simple.
For a boxer like Hopkins to say that regarding a fellow fighter he's trying to make a fight with is no more racism than a disgruntled employee telling a coworker that the boss is a cunt is an incitement to rebellion and mutiny within the workplace. ::**

He is fucking stupid though.
I actually think the whole think was a way to hype the fight. Hopkins probably called Joe and said "here's how we get people interested...go to the biggest fight of the year weigh in and hype another UK/US, Black/White fight. I'll play the Floyd role, you play the good guy and we'll get the ball rolling and make some great money."
Hopkins just went too far by making a dickhead comment that will turn people off rather than on. The world is far too PC nowadays.

Sorry Bilbo, but I'm afraid whilst the comment in of itself isn't high on the racist scale, what it does do is suggest something about the man behind the words and the implication that he believes himself to be better than any white man to ever pull on boxing gloves. And in that, he rules out the possibility that any white man could be better than him, which is racist.
In terms of scale of racism, it is close to one one the one to ten scale of severity, but it still is racist.

I do think the comment was racist how can it not have been? He may not trully believe the shit he said as in he's not really a racist but that doesn't prevent the statement from being racist. I really think he's promoting the fight, and shit I mean we already have a 3 page thread on it, so obviously he knows what he's doing, I just wish he had went another route about it, I hate when anything becomes racialized. I hope joe knows better and doesn't degrade himself to this level just to promote a fight, I hope he responds with something class where he still manages to call hop a moron for believing that no white man could ever beat him.

I just think that everyone looks for things to go apeshit over with & Hopkins is known for cranking up the controversy.
It's easy to say that he aint being a racist...but if the shoe was on the other foot & Gatti had said something on the color of Floyd's skin prior to there fight...Gatti'd be thought of as a Klansman.
There again...it's alright for Pacquiao to say that there isn't a Mexican alive that can beat him & that he is the "Mexi-killer"...again...personally...I think that everyone looks for things to go apeshit over.

It's not racist Rhun. The balck man has a long history stretching back hundreds of years of being oppressed by white's. If they have any resentments it's nothing to do with being racist and everything to do with history.
Growing up as a black in America where white's rule you are bound to feel some resentment and general hostility.
Is it any coincidence that virtually all of boxing's most flashy and flamboyant characters are/were black?
They have come from being part of a social underclass to being achievers in a white world.
It may sound hypocritical to say it would have been racist if the other way around but that is defintely the case here because of history.

If Santa puts your child on his knee, ruffles there hair and shouts 'Ho ho ho, merry christmas' and gives them a present it's fun and part of what christmas is supposed to be about. If Gary Glitter on the other hand was to attempt to do that to your child you'd have a different mindset entirely.

It's not that I don't see what you're digging at here Bilbo, but I just think it does amount to racism, in that it differentiates between people on terms of race.
My concern, in saying that its ok for black people to differentiate on a racial basis is that it is straying close to giving racist groups the logical go-ahead to justifying racism by saying that black people have been subjugated for so long historically so they should be used to it. I know it is a step and a jump away from what B-Hop said, but if it becomes ok for one racial group to do it, then it will spread.

Hopkins may not be a racist but in truth comments like that do not come out unless somewhere inside you have a small hint of those feelings...There may hve been a part of it for hype but you know what resorting to such things to sell a fight makes it even lower in my book......You have F'IN Millions of dollars your nor your family is starving now or will they ever inb the future....And iof you feel the need to make comments like that to help cash another paycheck then that brings you down even another rung in the ladder

Respect to you Daxx, when you're a fan of a fighter, as I know you are/were of Hopkins, it's easy to dismiss some of the things they say as just trash talk or whatever, but you fronted up and showed you stick to your princples right here.
However, I don't think that it is quite the same as Calzaghe saying he could never lost to a black man, (which would certainly cause a whole heap more uproar,) because of the historical links and white people traditionally having been the ethnic majority in most western cultures. And if he said he would never lose to a black man, he'd lose me as a fan too.

And CC back to you Rhun....It has nothing to do with the fact he said it in a demeaning manner towards white's...I am not even white...I am Half Mongolian half Puerto Rican...In was the racial comment or hint towards or attemp to build the fight...(depending on whose eyes it is looked upon)....
I would have felt the same way if it was a comment from him towards a latin, oriental, jewish or any other race....it's just low class.....
