Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
The first two fights between these guys have been amazing. Great skills, power and toughness. But if they go to war once more are they risking ruining themselves for future bouts and shortening their careers significantly. This would mean their moneymakiing ability as well. Do u think they should fight a couple of lesser opponents maybe before they commit to a third fight? There are many options at superbantam for them.
Caballero
Ponce de Leon
Molitor
Cordoba.
Any thoughts?
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
Well eagle to be sincere they are boxers and there profession is to fight.
So I mean if that was the case we might not have seen Erik vs. MAB III or Gatti vs. Ward III....
I see your concern but if that was the case why fight period?
One thing to make note of is that Vasquez fought the rematch so quickly after surgery. That's the reason why Freddie didn't want to take part in it. He said Vasquez was risking his life by going into the ring just months after surgery. Instead of the recommended 1 year.
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
Marquez is already 32 and Vazquez has had over 40 fights in his career. So I don't consider either to be in there prime any longer.

VD to be honest I still think that RMarquez was in his prime leading up to the second fight. But judging by how much Vasquez hurt him he looked pretty out of it. Now I agree I don't think either is in their prime. Unless you felt Rafa was past his prime already?

Your right in a way. But Morales and MAB atleast had some easier fights between their trilogy.
If either of those guys fought a Caballero or Ponce theyd not exactly be taking an easy fight, and would still make some cash.

Caballero is the only one I'd have any interest in seeing Rafa or Vasquez fight. Those other guys are at least a class below and would get blown out. Marquez-Vasquez III is by far the best fight to be made in the division -- it's not even close. And uh, the fight's already signed up and scheduled.
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
First off, both are squarely in their prime, or at least they were when they last fought. Second, they've done the heavy lifting and created a rivalry. Now it's their right to cash in on it.

I never said they didnt have a right to cash in. I asked are they gonna do permanent damage to each other from these wars they have? I mean it is no good cashing in one payday, then being shot for any other big matches that come along. I mean if Marquez gets Ko'd again he may never be the same fighter he was pre Vasquez, and may lose to guys he would have otherwise defeated easily.
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
The point of being a boxer is to make money and try to beat the best boxers available. That's what they're doing. If they get big paydays in the future they'll be bigger because the trilogy raised their profile.
They'd do more damage to themselves going thru more training camps for tune-up fights. They're going to fight again regardless.
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
ooh now the prime talk bullshyt!!!!!!!!!!
anyways, they may well be ruining eachother in the ring but they have made eachother no doubt about it. They can retire after thier third match and will go down as one of the best bantamweight fighters in our time. Historically rafa and isreal will be remember as two great rivalry next to marco and eric. let them have their thrid match, after it they have already set foot into greatness and go down in boxing history.
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
Both fighters are moiving into areas of their career where the expierience of fights such as these will be beneficial. I believe we will see these two guys turn into two champions who have got so much expierience that the young guys will have to be exceptional to live with them,
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
I certainly think they will have taken alot out of each other and that the person who faces them AFTER this trilogy has a good chance of beating them. There's onyl so much abuse a fighter can take,ESPECIALLY Vazquez, who's every fight seems to be a war!
Re: Are Marquez and Vasquez risking ruining each other???
You gotta think every fighter only gets so many wars before it gets to em - I think there's a fine line between ruination and legendmakination (that's my Don King word of the day - I got a calendar full of em!) ;D
