Who Would Be P4P Number 1
Lets say right now that Jones had just beat Ruiz, and Mayweather has just beaten Hatton who would be P4P number 1 in your eyes ?? I think Jones buts lets compare there best wins and achievements.
Roy Jones Jr Best Wins
John Ruiz
Bernard Hopkins
Clinton Woods
James Toney
Montel Griffin
Julio Cesar Gonzalez
Eric Harding
Reggie Johnson
Virgil Hill
Mike McCallum
Vinny Pazienza
World Titles at, Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Lightheavyweight, Heavyweight.
Floyd Mayweather's Best Wins
Ricky Hatton
Oscar De La Hoya
Jose Luis Castillo x2
Genaro Hernandez
Jesus Chavez
Zab Judah
Arturo Gatti
Phillip N'dou
Diego Corrales
Angel Manfredy
DeMarcus Corley
World Title's at Super Featherweight, Lightweight, Jr Welterweight, Welterweight, Light Middleweight.
There careers are quite similar with people saying, they both fought tough opposition when they first become champion. But then getting accused of hand picking opponent's later in there career, but who would be P4P number 1 in your opinion ??
Re: Who Would Be P4P Number 1
They're very close.
I think Floyd is the superior fighter, but it'd be tough to argue against someone who favors Jones. Floyd is certainly the more well-schooled fighter, which is why I personally like him more.

What might give Jones the edge is his win over Ruiz winning the Heavyweight Title, because Jones started off as Light Middleweight and Jones winning Heavyweight title, that achievement had not been done since early 1900s i believe ?? but you are right they are very close, both men most of the time dominate there opponent's in impressive fashion, Mayweather is the better technical fighter, Jones is more naturally talented, its close one.

It was cool to see Jones fight at heavyweight, but let's be honest, that wasn't a heavyweight title fight. John Ruiz was a stiff who just happened to own a belt.
Let's say Cory Spinks had somehow upset Jermain Taylor and won a middleweight belt. Floyd probably would have moved up and challenged Spinks. But if Floyd had won, people would have said it didn't really mean much because Spinks wasn't really a middleweight. Jones-Ruiz is the same thing.

I agree SweetPea but it was still amazing achievement even if Ruiz isn't Good/Great Heavyweight. Why did Roy Jones never fight at Cruiserweight ??

Because he could make way more money by going up to heavy. And then after that, Tarver was a bigger fight than any of the guys at cruiser.

No way is that the same. Taylor was THE middleweight champion. Ruiz was just a belt holder and a lousy one at that.
To the OP. This is an interesting topic. You are not only stating a direct question which is who would be #1 if the circumstances you describe had happend. You are also stating that Mayweather's achievements already compare to that of Jones Jr. and most belive he still has some big fights left. So this means at the end of the day it is very likely he will be considered better than Roy Jones Jr.
This will be a hard argument to make to most avid Jones Jr. fans. But don't worry, I am not one of them...
Re: Who Would Be P4P Number 1
I would say Floyd is. He is the superior technical boxer and not to mention undefeated and in his prime. Where as Roy at that juncture would be at his twilight and has a loss albeit a BS loss due to a disqualification still had a loss

Very true. However i look at it like this. If you take 130 Floyd and pump him up by 40lbs and put him in against a hand picked Super-Middleweight Title holder... How would he do?
In short, the fact that Roy could inflic his style up at Heavyweight, for me, implies that HE was the superior fighter.

Because he's scared of Bobby Gunn
;D
Seriously i don't think there is much between these two guys. Mayweather is probably the better all around fighter....taking into account his defensive skills.
I'd say Mayweather.......but wouldn't argue with those who say Jones
Re: Who Would Be P4P Number 1
Jones would probably be the peoples choice as he was more exciting extravagent and dangerous in the ring.
I feel the purists would say Mayweather, technically far better than Jones Jr.
Re: Who Would Be P4P Number 1
I think Mayweather is a GREAT fighter
But Roy Jones in his Prime ( at middle or wotever time you guys think was his prime in your opinion )
was without doubt totall untouchable , the oposition wasnt as good as Floyd has fought , but Toney was maid to look like a kid in a mans world as was Hopkins. That is so impressive , so for me Jones

One could say the same about Corrales, Gatti, Baldomir and....Hatton (sniffle)
Floyd is as untouchable as Jones but Floyd is undefeated.

Re: Who Would Be P4P Number 1
Yes at middleweight...
Floyd retained that aura at Light weight, Light welter, Welter and even Light Middle.
