will 2008 be year of the supermiddleweights
this was quite possibly the year of welterweights with all the top fighters in the divison fighting each other. Mayweather-Hatton, Cotto-Mosley, Margarito-Williams, Mosley-Collazo, Cotto-Judah. but now with floyd gone from the scene, mosley semi-retired, Judah lost his standing as a major player and nobody wanting to fight williams do you think supermiddleweights will be the hottest divison in 2008.
there is already fighters like Joe Calzaghe, Mikkel Kessler, Anthony Mundine, Edison Miranda, Jeff Lacy, Carl Froch, Librado Andrade, Allan green, Lucian Bute and soon to be joining the divison will be Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor
Re: will 2008 be year of the supermiddleweights
2008 will again be the year of the welterweights, although 168 is certainly strong right now and will have some great fights.

apart from cotto-williams I don't think any other fight in the division is going to catch everyone's attention & cotto never mentioned williams as a possible opponent he is busy chasing floyd
Re: will 2008 be year of the supermiddleweights
I think the lower guys are gonna wreck havoc in 2008. Starting with:
We all know the big fellas are gonna do their thing but the more we ignore the little guys the more unoticed they'll go.
We gotta shine some MORE light on the little guys they deserve it just as much as the others.
Light Flyweights
Solis vs. Calderon
Calderon vs. Asloum
Sosa vs. Cazares
Flyweights
Nonito vs. Daisuke
Sakata vs. Narvaez
Re: will 2008 be year of the supermiddleweights
isnt it weird that for 10 years Joe Calzaghe has struggled for decent oppenents at SMW, but in 2008 it could actually be one of the strongest divisions!
It mite be worth him staying there instead of going to L-Heavy if he cant get the fight with Hopkins.
Re: will 2008 be year of the supermiddleweights
No but it will be one of the best divisions, you got fighters like Miranda, Froch, Bute, Kessler, Bika, Mundine, Inkin, and they are bound to fight each other and they will be awesome match ups.
Re: will 2008 be year of the supermiddleweights
in all of the possiblr fights i wouldnt be dead sure of any outcome, all dangerous guys in their own right..
Would of loved Calzaghe to of faced Mudine just to shut that goby twat up >:mad

I think Mundine would give Calzaghe his toughest fight at 168 other than maybe a Kessler fight in Copenhagen. Mundine is faster than Calzaghe, and has improved out of sight. If he didnt have a glass chin i'd almost say he could casue an upset over Joe, but due to that problem i'd stilll pick Joe by UD. I think Mundien would beat any of the other curent 168 guys comfortably altho Pavlik moving up would maybe KO him.
Re: will 2008 be year of the supermiddleweights
sort of agree about mundine but he's never faced anything like calzaghe, would be good to watch

The MAN. althoa complete TWAT like u said, has some great skills, and is a tremendous athlete. He keeps getting better all the time, and his destruction of Soliman in particular was a great effort. He looked good against a guy that makes everyone look bad.
I think if he'd been in boxing earlier rather than being a pro Rugby League player for so long he could have been a top P4P fighter.
Still talks shit tho.

I honestly see mundine as 7 rounds worth of work for Joe

Well I'd be willing to bet a Cotto/Margarito fight would raise some heads in the WW if it happened. The WW div. has the possibility to be real explosive again next year. The SMW can have some real bang ups if the pieces fall into place. Miranda/Andrade, Kessler/Taylor, Kessler/Miranda, Miranda/Taylor. Those 4 right there alone would be huge IMO and any could be FOTY prospects.

Based on what? I think Mundine would win a few rounds against Joe and maybe even stun him before losing a UD. say 117-111
