Khan to tackle Dane Kristjansen (BBC)

Amir Khan will return to the ring on 2 February against Denmark's Martin Kristjansen at London's ExCel Arena.

Khan, 21, is eager resume his rise up the world rankings after taking just 72 seconds to beat former British champion Graham Earl earlier this month.

The fight will be made for the nominal WBO intercontinental lightweight crown.

But promoter Frank Warren said: "I will writing to the WBO with the aim of making this fight as an eliminator for the world title."

Kristjansen, 30, holds a respectable 19-1-3 pro record, and has won his last eight fights, but has only five victories by way of stoppage.

Warren said: "This is another step up for Amir. Kirstjansen is world ranked and will give him plenty to think about.

"Amir has only just turned 21, but he looked absolutely sensational in demolishing an experienced former champion in Graham Earl."

Olympic silver medallist Khan is currently ranked sixth by the WBO, ninth by the WBC and 15th by the WBA.

Uncle Frank sure loves his WBO titles. In typical sports network fashion Khan will go on to pick up the belt once it's been vacated by JD and then if we're lucky in 10 years time he might start taking on some top ranked opponents. In the mean time though he'll be clocking up a record number of defenses against various European bums as uncle Frank nurses him to maturity.

I don't know anything about this Dane but I was actually looking forward to seeing Amir testing himself against Romanov and Thaxton in his next couple of bouts. That would be good progress. I hope the kid don't let Warren slow his progress too much. It would be nice to see another genuine world class Brit have a shot at the p4p rankings. I think he might have to do a Hatton for that though...when the time's right.

Looking at his record he's a step down from Graham Earl. Should be an easy win for Khan. Ko in the first 5 rounds.

The Danes have good heart and chin, will be a good test for him

Disappointing i thought it was too good to be true, for Warren to let Khan step up and face Yuri.

its better than any British domectic fight out there for him bar Thaxton. But hes still young as long as he fights a lot whos fussed. Its all experience for him!

I honestly getting pissed off with alll these 'opponents' kahn seems to face. Most of them have a look in there eyes before even the first bell that there gona get beat and there scared. Its a joke half the time. I honestly think Earl wasnt all that cop either as was said was deffo on the way down so Kahn SHOULD of beaten it wasnt as much of a groundbreaking performance it was painted out to be. Recently though Warren looks for fighters who are basically nobodys wth good records so WHEN kahn wins itll look more impressive then it really is. >:mad

This is just a step-down, Khan needs to break from Warren. He needs to be pushed harder, like Andre Berto has been

I am sure I speak for us all when I say I am disappointed with this.

Had had to be Romanov or Thaxton next. Preferably Thaxton. Thaxton is a live challenger or will pose Khan problems. Earl was spent after his battle with Katsidas and had also been outpointed by Ricky Burns (Scottish super feather beaten by Arthur and Carl Johanneson). The Earl victory was expected although not so quick.

While there's no doubt Con is extremely talented, I don't see him as the super prospect he's made out to be. His defense is weak and I think his chin is weaker. I don't think it's a coincidence that he has not been in with even a decent puncher. I think his team is hiding something. And until he proves me wrong, I look at him as just a fraud. A con. I know people are going to say he's still early in his career. But I don't see it that way. When your as hyped as Con was/is things are expected at a much quicker pace. Floyd Mayweather, Koki Kameda, David Reid, Fernando Vargas, Eagle Kyowa were all highly hyped when they turned pro. And they became champions early in there careers. I see no reason why the same shouldn't be expected of Con.
