Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
Just saw that fight for the first time, and I have to say I think James Toney was robbed in that fight. Especially with the margain of victory for Peter. I broke every round down and I couldnt see Peter winning that fight. I know this is a last year fight but what is everyone elses opinion?
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
Hell even Sam knew he was given a gift decision in that fight.
Peter is the most over-rated boxer at the moment. Although the McCline fight helped expose him.

Funny enough though punch stats had Peter landing much more punches.
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
Punch stats were bogus... I got it on dvr and have watched it several times.
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
Here are the punch stats.
Blows were reported as, Peter 327/772 42%; Toney 218/647 34%. Peter led in events (attempts + controls) 905 to 786, 54% to 46% of the total.

I haven't watched the fight, i don't bother to watch Heavyweights anymore. The only recent one i watched was Peter vs McCline.
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
Toney won the first fight, I just can't see Peter getting the decision.
Second fight was a different story but the first fight was Toney's.
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
Compubox doesnt tell the full tale..
For instance..Sam peter can win one round by thowing 40 punches and toney only throwing and landing 20..
And as the pace gets slowed down peter could have thrown and landed more in winning four or so rounds then toney needs to in the rest of the fight to win..
rounds that toney controlls (At least at heavyweight) Are slower paced and based on his ring generalship skill and counterpunching.. But like i said.. Numbers like that can easily come from separate rounds in which different fighters have controlled different rounds putting out more punches.. It means nothing when it comes to scoring a fight

Not saying it does i just thought i would add something to the thread so we could see some good debating ;)
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
I gave it to Toney by 2 rds...the rematch was all Peter...
Peter had really started to improve his boxing skills for a bit,,,it showed a lot in the Toney rematch...then he stalled out again...another fighter who relies too much on his power...
I don't think McCline exposed him...IMO just shows Peter needs some growing up to do...all the tools are there
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
Anytime Jameel knocks the supposed next heavyweight down 3 times I think someone was exposed.

Why can I ask?,,,,McCline is a BIG BIG man who can hit hard....Jameel has had a habit of coming into fights under trained and he he has a bit of a confidence problem...after a rough start he was quite a good fighter until he met Wlad....
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
I believe I scored the first fight either 7-5 or 8-4 in favor of Toney. It was a close fight, but I thought Toney clearly won.
Peter obviously dominated the rematch.
Re: Just saw the Samuel Peter, James Toney Fight
I had Toney up by 4 points in 1st fight.Sam rebounded in 2nd and showed more diversity in arsenal and all around boxing.Just hope The trauma The Hairless wookie caused him with the near KO loss does not leave him shellshocked.
Imo,Forget the punchstats .Its effective and clean punches not how many.Quality over Quanity.Save that stuff for the scoring in Amatuer Fights.
