Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
Duran is something else he would put on 190/200+ pounds and he would still lose all of the weight in time for a fight, and still be in 100 percent perfect condition. He weighed like 190 pounds shortly before Barkley fight. But he got down to 156 and was in the shape of his life i really can't understand how he does it. When you lose that much weight in that short period of time your normally weight drained, but he wasn't weight drained at all in fact he took some of the most thunderous body shots i've ever seen and amazingly he had more stamina than Barkley did at the end thats just incredible.
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
He ain't getting down in weight anymore. I saw him at the IBHOF induction weekend this past June, he looked like he weighed 300 lbs.
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
I think a lot of guys are like Duran. They love to binge then they have to purge to make weight. They have eating disorders. Vargas was like this. Now I'll bet he'll get up to over 200 and stay there.

He still pretty solid though..I wouldnt f#ck with him even now. He seems like the kind of guy who would fight again if the money was right and would probably beat a lot of the heavies lol.
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
You have to understand something though...if a fighter gives himself 8-10 weeks to train....they can drop 20lbs easy in water weight....that brings him down to 170-175.....The he stops all the fatty food...starts eating stuff to bring up his metabolism...pump himself full of carbs..add daily workouts...we are talking 1-2lbs a day on top of that 2-4 wks he is at 160....he slows down on weight loss and sucking weight for a wk and just balances himself out so not to drain himself too much...last 2 wks drops 6-8lbs for the weigh ins...then after weigh in rehydrates back up another 5-6lbs....happens all the time...give or take the exact weight lost and how long it takes...but the general idea is there
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
What I cant understand about Duran was his other bad habit. He was a heavy drinker during his boxing days and it never really affected him! Crazy stuff!
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.

I never got that either. Daryl Strawberry of the Yankees said he would slide into third base with an eight ball of cocaine in his back pocket. Some of these athletes do tremendous amounts of drugs and function physically where most of us couldn’t walk or talk. I guess it’s a mix off tolerance and genetics

Some guys will say anything to sell a book.

ya that could be part of it but a couple of his team mates confirmed it. It’s not hard to believe considering how much he chased the stuff and lost everything for it
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
one time Howard Cosell came upon Duran in Las Vegas at an all you can eat buffet, and Duran was going to fight Hagler in 5 weeks. Cosell aske dhim thru an interpreter: "Roberto, isnt that a little too much ice cream?" and Duran said in English: "I like ice cream, YES! I like! I like!"
While getting lessons from his coach, a young Durán says in Spanish, “I learn anything you want as long as you get me an ice cream every time I kill one of those fuckers.” As Robert De Niro, who plays his future trainer Ray Arcel, narrates Durán’s dominance in the ring as an amateur, the boxer can be seen still eating ice cream after each victory. Duran would gulp down gallons of vanilla, cherry vanilla, coffee, and mint ice cream.
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
Duran was a freak of nature who could have fought until he was 60 years old. He was born to fight and be a boxer.
Hardly ever cut or bruised, great chin, warrior heart and all round legend.
Re: Roberto Duran And His Eating Habits.
Yeah all around Legend man no doubt. I think he was probably my third favorite fighter. after Rocky Marciano and George Foreman I have to go with Roberto Duran tied for third place with Aaron Pryor.
