Which do I get? The downside I see to ipod is charging through the usb or spending more money on getting an adaptor at least with some mp3s I can chuck a battery in it when I go on holiday ???
I am tempted by the 160gb classic because 40,000 songs is a challange :) or do I go for something like a sony which costs pretty much the same but has only 8gb :(
Well Missy, technically I'm no genius but I would lean slightly toward mp3.
The reason for this answer is as a result not of advantages of mp3's, but disadvantages of the I-pod.
The I-pod is becoming pretty notorious with problems in relation to the screen They seem to damage incredibly easily and are expensive to replace if not insured. Furthermore if they do need to be replaced it may be time consuming.
Another factor is the software for The I pod. To the best of my knowledge once you install your software onto one computer you can only use your I-pod on that PC...
Finally, the price differential between add-ons for mp3s and I pods is vast. Mp3 stuff is far cheaper.
I agree. I'd go for any other brand purely for the flexibility...plus itunes does my fucking nut in :beat:
I've had 2 ipods... one 20 and a 30 and I have to say its a pretty great thing to have I don't use itunes to download music I use torrents and no you can connect an ipod to any computer with itunes and take any songs as long as they aren't purchased off of itunes... it plays mp3s and aacs which is great and you'll get a crapload of memory for a reasonable price the downside I have is video takes a while to convert video but you can download free programs to speed it up and tweak quality :)

I don't know anything about these. For some reason I've lagged behind as far as this goes and still just have CD's.
But can you only put I-tunes on an Ipod? Heard that from someone else. Doesn't sound good considering the whole you have to pay for it part of I-tunes.

itunes is only needed to transfer songs to the ipod so if your gonna buy songs online you can buy unprotected mp3s and play them on an ipod as well there are other players as well it just depends on what you want I've never had any problems with my ipods so I stick by apple... to each their own
I have everything stored on i tunes and the only ipod i have is an ipod shuffle. F****** tiny...i only listen to it when training or running and it really is the best for this type of activity. It hold 240 tracks which is more than enough.
I guess it all depends on what you want it for. If you are going to train with it dont get one of those clunky hard drive models. Get a shuffle or something with flash memory.

I use them heavily. Running in the morning, when work gets frustrating, at training, at the gym, walking to work....I managed to bust the I-pod i got first within a month. Now I have a Sony AW-800 I think it is. Brilliant!
this is too much :) I'll probably get two, a holiday model and a more static thingy for class. Thanks for your help even if I'm still confused. :-\
