Hey guys.
I dunno if anyone would remember me but I thought I'd stop by and let you guys know that I've given up the boxing. Was in it for quite a while and everyone here was a great help with everything.
I remember clinging to this site for ages on tips and pointers, anyone who is new here I hope you're enjoying the site as much as I did and I hope that the site is growing and becoming more and more popular, with the great and helpful community I'm sure you are.
I was loving boxing for a while, was winning and training and doin well, but when I started going up classes the guys were just relentless.... I wasn't fighting for the fun of it any more, I was fighting so that the guy on the other side of the ring didn't bash me to death.
I still train and I'm teaching my little cousin how to box coz he thinks it's the coolest thing in the world but I had to retire from the ring after a deadly defeat that left me bruised and hurt for a long long time. Maybe I'll get back into it one day, but when ever I think about getting back in the ring with some 6'6" guy with a forarm the size of my uper body I feel sick...
I guess you could say I've taken the quiters way out but I'd rather be a quiter then dead, true?
I'll admit that the thrill of beating a guy twice your size stills pulls me, but I can't bring myself to go through the torture of being beaten half to death again.

Re: Hey guys.
What were you doing in the ring with anyone twice your size ???
-
Re: Hey guys.
Fighting, obviously I exaggerate a bit with the twice the size thing, but some of em were big boys...
-
Re: Hey guys.
Where do you fight? I can't help but wonder why any trainer/organistaion would let you fight suuch big guys. Unless your a small heavy?
-
Re: Hey guys.
I fought at the ammeture nights in a town up the road from where I live. I'm not small-heavy, but I stood my own, my trainer wanted me to go up, go further, but I was like nah I think no. He was a tad pushy I'll admit it, but I don't think he'd have ever let me get in too deap. He told me he didn't want to 'waste me' I could take big guys, but I wasn't having fun doing it.

Re: Hey guys.
He must have forgotten that you're the fighter, it's your body and your burden the morning after. I'm sorry man, but If you do decide to go back, I wouldn't reccomend returning to that trainer at all.

Re: Hey guys.
Well yeah, I guess you're right, but I liked the challenge, for a while. The first guy I fought that was clearly bigger than me, I felt a rush I hadn't before, the rush that I wanted to beat him so bad, I told my trainer that and I think he just took it a bit far.

Re: Hey guys.
Everyone gets the same feeling, but is it worth it?
-
Re: Hey guys.
I thought it was, but with some of the injuries I've had and have I hafto think it wasn't
-
Re: Hey guys.
Believe me I understand! There are other ways you can contribute and participate in boxing though. You could train as a referee or you could do a trainers course and vow to be a responsible coach.

Re: Hey guys.
I wouldn't mind being a coach, but I dunno if I would be that great. I think if I was coaching someone I would expect them to do well, I dunno, just don't think I'd do too great. With what you're saying I might end up going back but fight the guys my size again.
I know I'm not in the best form, with having broken both my arms now, having a pretty bad knee and bad memories of the ring it might be a bit hard to climb back in.

Re: Hey guys.
Well man what can I say, only you know what you're truely capable of and it's only you that can decide. Obviously your going through adversity and even though I don't know you , you seem like a good guy, just a little down. Time heals all wounds.

Re: Hey guys.
Thanks buddy. Like I said, I'm still training and all, staying in shape, but like you said, i guess only time will say if I get back into it or not.
I remember talking to you when I was regular here. :)

Re: Hey guys.
You do? I thought you would have been here before I started!
Different username?

Re: Hey guys.
Well I'm pretty sure it was you. I'm pretty sure I remember talking to you, but I've been Luke Hughesy for my whole stay here, so no, not a different user name.
