you want to cut your energy intake and increase your aerobic activities like running, skipping, etc. to lose weight. To gain muscle mass etc around your abs you need to work them each day and constantly shock them. Other muscles shouldn't be worked each day as it can lead to injury. I suggest looking up a body builders website, after all the aim of boxing isn't too look the best, but who can fight the best. It just so happens that your training generally will make your body this way.

Fast short sprints someone suggested the other week, i have to agree, that tones them up big time.

Right on guys thx for the tips, ive started jogging about 30 mins a day and i do lots of ab routines and hit up the gym 4 times a week working areas other than my abs, if i keep this up i know ill get more lean

Forget Aerobic training, might make you lose weight but we're talking about getting lean here - changing body make up.
Stick with your strength training and do a lot of anaerobic training, intervals, circuits etc... the idea is to develop and stress your lean mass and raise your metabiolism.
