What's the Deal with Juan Carlos Gomez--MISSING?

I don't know what this is about, but FightNews.com just announced that JC Gomez is 'missing,' and if he doesn't turn up soon, they will find another opponent for Virchis.

"Heavyweight contender Juan Carlos Gomez has not been heard from even through he is slated to face Vladimir Virchis in a WBC world title elimination fight. Only his attorneys and advisors have been in contact with promoter Arena Box-Promotion. Arena CEO Ahmet Öner has offered Gomez an extra $200,000 if he defeats Virchis. The fight with Virchis must take place in the next 90 days, and if Gomez doesn't resurface, another opponent will be found.

What kind of funny business is this? About a week ago, Arena put out an article stating that all of their fighters were training in Mallorca, but since the purse bid, JCGomez is missing?

It seems that Gomez is always at the short end of some controversial issue...

Like his being the most dominant cruiserweight of our time, but he can't get high profile fights at the HW division.(yes, he blew it against Yanqui Diaz, but that's what he gets for giving his hungry countryman a shot).

Like his 10 of 12 round schooling of McCall the first time, only to have some special circumstance take away his title shot... his 'drug' test in the first McCall fight (btw,McCall was arrested in FL for Cocaine possession the week after GOMEZ popped positive for cocaine use... I won't say they switched the samples, but is this a coincidence? Gomez, to this day, denies he has EVER taken any drugs).

Like McCall II being called an 'eliminator,' but since Gomez won, he now has to fight another 'eliminator' to become the 'mandatory...' So what did the eliminator ELIMINATE?

Like NO ONE picking up this fight, even though it is going to be one of the best HW 'boxer vs. puncher' fights we will probably see this entire decade... so it had to go to purse bid.

Now that they have the purse bid, and his own promoter offered an extra $200k if he wings, he miraculously disappears. AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT THINKS THIS SOUNDS FISHY??? If he is 'missing' as they say, why not call the authorities? Why make a press release threatening to take away the title shot opportunity he already earned?

Someone please let me know that this 200lb man has resurfaced on the third dimension. If not, we may have to call William Shatner or Rod Serling... (submit for your approval).

I would advise him to get out of Germany, because someone does not want him to fight for the Hwt championship & his current camp does not seem to have the ability to look out for the best interest of their guy.

Essentially, the second article speaks of how all Arena boxers were in Mallorca on january 9th. So how could he be missing a couple of days later, when they just had the purse bid?

I know I am not the only person who looks at this as controversial.

when u see some of the heavys getting shots at the titles you have to wonder what
Gomez has to do? If he does reappear and win his shot it wouldn't surprise me if
there was another bullshit reason why he doesnt get it

I cand tell you right now that the whole VitaliKlit 'mandatory' will rear its ugly head again. This means that they will give VK a shot before they give JCG a shot. I don't see who in the boxing world is missing this.

Bad management, that all I can think of....his record alone should get him a shot. Maybe he dropped out of rankings system due to inactivity? To be honest he hasnt had many big fights at heavyweight, his best wins were at cruiserweight. He hasnt been impressive at heavy, his loss to Yanqui Diaz hurt him a lot, and his big wins are McCall, and Sinan Samil Sam. Needs more on his resume at heavyweight. "Disappearing" for this fight wont help his cause....

Gomez is an idiot he has tons of talent and throws it away on a regularly basis...
He f@#ked it up when he was under Universum Box Promotion,cause of drug problems and
his unwillingness to train properly...I mean he was engaged(or even married,not sure) with the
daughter of champion coach Fritz Szdunek and had even a child with her and still blew it and was
forbidden (by court I think) to see the kid,because of the drug problems...
Then he went to US to try his luck there and like you mentioned above blew it again vs Yanqui Diaz...
he claimed in an interview that he didn't train for the fight being arrogant to think he can win
this easily anyway...,but I think again that drugs and his lifestyle played a major roll here...
Then he came back to Germany first under Universum again and later he went to Arena...
And I got to admit that I was surprised that it did seem he got over all his problems...
Well...looks like he didn't overcome anything and still is a stupid moron...

Well, in his defence, nobody knows why he is missing so maybe there is a legit reason.

Check out fightnews, he's in L.A. and plans on training with Freddie Roach. He left his old promotion company, and want to work towards a title shot soon. I think this is a great move for him, he should fight Virchis IMO tho, because he's ranked pretty high and would be a good name to get him closer to that title shot.

Kickin it in L.A. with freddie roach...i can't belive no one looked there first.
