Ali Nuumbembe has retired and rejoined the Nambian Army.....
Taken from this weeks issue of Boxing News.
Ali Nuumbembe former Commenwealth welterweight champion who recently lost his belt on an 8th round cuts loss to Craig Watson has decided to hang up the gloves and return home to Nambia to rejoin the Nambian Army after just 22 fights and at 29 years of age.
In 2005 Nuumbembe made his name, drawing over 12 with then Britsh champ David Barnes and in 2006 suffered his only genuine stoppage loss at the hands of still unbeaten top-prospect Ajose Olusegun. He came back with two straight wins including a fantastic result over then undefeated tough British champion Kevin Anderson in which he won on points. To fights later came the loss to Watson in which Nuumbembe's face was virtually covered in blood.
Trainer Bob Shannon is devastated "I only found out at the weekend, after losing his title his manger Steve Wood wanted to put Mark Thompson in for it and leave Ali on the backburner. He (Ali) has been dillusioned anyway and he'd had his heart set on a rematch" he further went on to say "I wish him every happiness, It's a real shame, he's not a shot fighter and has more to give".
Nuumbembe retires with a record of 18-3-1 (6)
I was actually pretty down when I read this as I really like Nuumbembe he has a great personality and he lived in a Caravan in scotland even after he beat Anderson and he's a really down to earth guy and it was unlucky when he got cut like that against Watson but I wish him the best of luck especially in the Army and he is a credit to the sport of boxing.

CC number #4 (forgot about our little bet, sorry)
I'm upset at this. He lived in a caravan in a small town where i grew up (glossop, derbyshire). He runs past my uncles house almost on a daily basis. I always enjoyed watching him fight.
It's a great shame.
:(

CC returned and I insist just give me 5 bro as the goal could was maybe offside ;) .
Ye I feel the same he's a top man and it's very dissapointing.
I remember sitting in my living room when he fought Anderson and his manger Frank Maloney said if he loses tonight his career is finished and he would ahve to return home ASAP and when he got the decision I was ecstatic and took a great interest in him.
Why can't someone like Paul Malignaggi fuck off out of Boxing and do us all a favour?? >:mad
If boxing had more Ali Nuumbembe's it would be a much better sport.

Can't imagine Paulie in the army though if he retired he would most likely go into hairdressing

Come on dude....surely there's room for someone as fleet-footed as him in the troupe of dancers on Madonna's next tour. Which may or may not be titled: "Like a Virgin (Train, costing a fortune).
